CFP: AATSEEL Conference 2020 (San Diego)

Deadline to Submit: July 1, 2019

The American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (AATSEEL) National Meeting is a forum for scholarly exchange of ideas in all areas of Slavic and East/Central European languages, literatures, linguistics, cultures, and pedagogy. The 2020 Conference will be held February 6-9, 2020 in San Diego, California.

This is a reminder that July 1 is our Second deadline for submitting a proposal; deadline for submitting rosters for Roundtables; deadline for submitting rosters for Fora on Instructional Materials.

The Program Committee invites scholars to form panels around specific topics, organize roundtable discussions, propose forums on instructional materials, and/or submit proposals for individual presentations.

Job: Bilingual Russian Cybercrime Intelligence Analyst

Deadline to Apply: Open until Filled

Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for a Bilingual (English/Russian) Cybercrime Intelligence Analyst in the Cybercrime Intelligence Unit of its Cybercrime and Identity Theft Bureau (CITB). CITB is committed to protecting the public by investigating and prosecuting sophisticated cybercrime and identity theft schemes, including cases involving check and credit card fraud, cyber impersonation, cyber-stalking and bullying, computer hacking, as well as money laundering and threats to financial institutions. The Cybercrime Intelligence Unit is a team within the Bureau conducting proactive investigations of cybercriminals, with the goal of protecting New York County’s residents and financial infrastructure.

“Elementary-level Foreign Language Instruction: From Theory to Practice”

Successful elementary level language courses are crucial for a foreign language program as they can lay a foundation for further language and culture study, instill the love for language, and populate upper-level courses with students. One way to ensure that the pursuit of the language continues beyond the first year is to sustain learner’s interest, confidence, and motivation from the start by supporting language instruction with engaging activities and contextualized practice. This edited volume aims to facilitate teaching language at the beginning level by exploring a wide range of critical research and practical issues of interest to instructors of the first-year language classroom. To this end, you are invited to submit proposals for articles that address research or pedagogical issues with the focus on classroom implications for novice levels of adult language proficiency.

Podcast: The Slavic Connexion

“The Slavic Connexion” from The University of Texas at Austin

This semester, students from the UT Slavic Department launched a new podcast called The Slavic Connexion. Each week the students, lead by grad student/filmmaker Michelle Daniel and hosted by grad students Thomas Rehnquist and Matthew Orr, and undergrads Milena Djordjevic-Kisacanin and Lauren Nyquist, take turns interviewing UT faculty, students and visiting speakers to the Department. The podcast is a fresh international chat show meant to share research, ideas, and culture in digestible episodes within and between academic institutions globally.

CFP: Conference on Edwin Morgan (Glasgow)

Deadline for Submissions: September 2, 2019

The University of Glasgow has announced a Call for Papers for a centenary conference dedicated to the Scottish poet, scholar, and translator Edwin Morgan. The conference will be held on 27-28th April 2020.

Morgan had a lifelong interest in Russia and eastern Europe and translated a great deal of poetry from Russian, Hungarian and other languages- and had his own poetry translated back into them too. The organisers would welcome applications from scholars with an interest in these translations or in Morgan’s close and productive relationship with these cultures.

Acad. Job: Russian Studies Instructor (Halifax, Canada)

Limited Term Appointment: Instructor, Russian Studies 

The Dalhousie University Department of Russian Studies seeks applications for a one year 100% full-time limited term appointment (July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020) at the Instructor level in Russian language, literature and culture. The position is subject to budgetary approval. The Instructor will teach language courses at the first and second year levels, literature, as well as two upper level Russian culture courses. Conference: ASEEES Annual Convention (San Francisco)

One of the core activities of the Association is the annual convention. Held in the fall, the convention takes place each year in a different city in North America. This international forum makes possible a broad exchange of information and ideas, stimulating further work and sustaining the intellectual vitality of the field. This year’s conference will be held from Saturday, November 23 – Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in San Francisco, California.

CFP: ICCEES World Congress (Montreal)

Deadline: December 31, 2019

ASEEES is delighted to sponsor the 2020 ICCEES World Congress, in Montreal, Canada, Aug 4-9, hosted by the Canadian Association of Slavists. It promises to be an outstanding event.

While proposals for complete panels are preferred, proposals are also invited for individual papers and round table discussions. The congress especially welcomes participation by young scholars and graduate students.

Undergraduate students working in any relevant discipline are invited to submit their papers for consideration to the UC Undergraduate Journal of Slavic and East/Central European Studies.  All papers will be subject to peer review.

CFP: Theatre’s New Publics in Central and East Europe and Russia

Deadline to Apply: June 1, 2019

Please consider submitting a paper proposal for a working group on Central and East European Theatre on the topic of “publics” hosted at the American Society for Theatre Research Conference from November 7-10, 2019 in Arlington, Virginia.

The working group format provides support, discussion and collaboration on work in multiple stages of development. Deadline for proposal submission is June 1st.
