The 2019 Hungarian Studies Association Book Prize
Sponsored by the Hungarian Studies Association, the goal of the book prize is to recognize quality scholarship in Hungarian studies and support Hungarian studies in the United States. The book prize is awarded biennially for the most important contribution to Hungarian studies originally published in English in the previous two calendar years. The HSA Book Prize carries a cash award and is presented at the meeting of the Hungarian Studies Association at the annual convention of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies. Oral History Projects in the Russian-Language Curriculum
In this webinar, Benjamin Rifkin and Colleen Lucey discuss how oral history projects can be used in the Russian language curriculum to the benefit of students, departments, and community partners. They will discuss what oral history projects are, how to organize and implement them, and discuss how such activities provide students with meaningful communicative interactions with native speakers. The presenters will share the example of an oral history project conducted at The College of New Jersey as evidence of the positive impact such initiatives can have on student motivation for the study of Russian. The University of Colorado is accepting applications for an Instructor of Russian Language. This is a one academic year, full-time (100%), non-tenure track position, with a possibility of renewal. Teaching responsibilities will include all levels of Russian language. Candidates will also be asked to teach courses in 20th century and/or contemporary Russian culture. Teaching load is three courses per semester. The position entails service components related to language placement and assessment of learning outcomes. Candidates must be willing to participate in extra-curricular activities of the program.

The Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program provides short-term seminars abroad for U.S. educators in the social sciences and humanities to improve their understanding and knowledge of the peoples and cultures of other countries. Each seminar features educational lectures and activities specifically designed for the group, including visits to local schools and organizations, meetings with teachers and students, and visits to cultural sites. Participants draw on their experiences during the program to create new, cross-cultural curricula for their classrooms and school systems back in the U.S.
In 2019, summer programs will be offered in the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic, Taiwan, and Uruguay. A total of 48 awards are available (16 per program). The program covers airfare, room and board, and program costs. Teacher participants are responsible for a cost-share of $600. Medieval Slavic Summer Institute 2019

A four-week intensive program hosted by the Hilandar Research Library, the Resource Center for Medieval Slavic Studies, and the department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures at The Ohio State University. The Institute (MSSI) offers lectures in two areas: Practical Slavic Codicology and Readings in Church Slavonic. Manuscript material on microform from the Hilandar Research Library’s extensive holdings forms a large part of the lectures and exercises. There is also a program of lectures on related topics, and other activities.
The 10th Biennial Medieval Slavic Summer Institute is open to qualified graduate students from universities that do not have a tradition of teaching Slavic Cyrillic palaeography, codicology, and readings in Church Slavonic.

A Crossroads Eurasia program
Experience Russia without straining your wallet: $990 gets you housing, meals, and weeks of working side-by-side with native Russian speakers. Together, counselors bring to life a summer camp near Kostroma, building children’s confidence, sharpening their English, and demonstrating global citizenship through sports, arts, and the outdoors.
Timing: Four to twelve weeks. Can be combined with other Crossroads Eurasia internships (e.g. teaching)
Costs: $990 for four weeks. $225 for each additional week. Note: the fee excludes flights and visa costs.
Russian proficiency: At least 2 semesters of Russian or equivalent (or heritage speaker)
Past experience: None required.

The Department of Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures in the Division of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures is searching for a part-time (62.5%) Visiting Assistant Professor in Russian Literature beginning in August 2019. The initial appointment will be for one year, with a possible reappointment, pending College approval and demonstrated excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will teach courses in 19th and 20th century Russian literature, including self-designed courses with a comparative literature focus.
