Description: The Smith Richardson Foundation sponsors an annual Strategy and Policy Fellows grant competition to support young scholars and policy thinkers on American foreign policy, international relations, international security, military policy, and diplomatic and military history. The purpose of the program is to strengthen the U.S. community of scholars and researchers conducting policy analysis in these fields. The Foundation will award at least three research grants of $60,000 each to enable the recipients to research and write a book. Within the academic community, this program supports junior or adjunct faculty, research associates, and post-docs who are engaged in policy-relevant research and writing. Within the think tank community, the program supports members of the rising generation of policy thinkers who are focused on U.S. strategic and foreign policy issues. Applicants must be an employee or affiliate of either an academic institution or a think tank. Please note that the Fellowship program will only consider single-author book projects. It will not consider collaborative projects (e.g., edited or multi-authored books, conference volumes or reports, or a collection of previously published articles, chapters or essays.)

The Slavic and East European Journal, the publication of the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages, in partnership with the Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures (SEELC) at The Ohio State University (OSU), is seeking to hire an assistant editor. The assistant editor, employed by SEELC at OSU, where the journal will be housed after July 1, 2017, will be responsible for the daily operations and smooth functioning of the journal with the following duties: receive manuscripts and present them to the editor, maintain an accurate schedule of the review process, copy edit and proofread scholarly submissions, communicate via social media, and operate an interactive website.

Academic Job: Director of the Russian Language Program (U. of Pittsburgh)

Responsibilities

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for the position of Director of the Russian Language Program. This appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer, with a three-year renewable term, pending budgetary approval. Duties include:
-Overseeing and assessing the integrity, coherence, and effectiveness of the department’s Russian language sequence.
-Mentoring (including orientation and training) and evaluation of instructors in the Russian language program.
-Assessment of student outcomes on a regular basis to comply with external and internal reporting requirements
-Teaching assignments will include primarily Russian language, literature, and culture at the undergraduate level, with others as needed. Non-teaching duties include oversight of the Undergraduate Russian Club and other cultural and outreach activities, Russian placement and proficiency testing, and program assessment.
-Scholarly publication and active participation in national professional associations are encouraged, but are not prerequisites for appointment or renewal.
Review of applications will begin on February 20, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled. The appointment begins with the fall term of 2017, with an anticipated start date of August 28, 2017.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Slavic or a related field (preferably with a specialization in Russian second-language acquisition) is required by the appointment start date, as are 1) native or ACTFL superior proficiency in Russian and English, 2) ACTFL OPI testing certification, either in hand or a commitment to completing it within a year and 3) teaching experience at the university level (preferably at an Anglophone institution). The ability to teach a second Slavic language is desirable, but is not a prerequisite for appointment.

Academic Job: Postdoc Fellowship in Slavic Langs., Lit. and Cultures (Florida State U.)

Responsibilities

The Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at Florida State University invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Slavic Languages, Literatures and Cultures beginning August 7, 2017. The postdoctoral fellow is responsible for teaching courses that contribute to the Slavic Program’s curriculum and maintaining an active research program. The teaching load will be 2 courses per semester and will include one repeatable large-enrollment course and one graduate seminar in the spring semester on a topic of the applicant’s choosing.

Special consideration will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary research programs and those who propose seminars that aim to serve graduate students across the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics and humanities or social science disciplines (these may include, but are not limited to, digital humanities, film studies, philosophy, linguistics, anthropology, and history).

Postdoctoral fellows are expected to participate in the intellectual life of the Department whose programs, curriculum, and events bring together faculty from multiple disciplines. In their letter of application, applicants should include a brief research statement that describes the specific projects to be undertaken during the fellowship period.

Qualifications

a part-time instructor of Russian, beginning August 2017, to teach two
sections of Russian: one at the post-100 level (fall term), and one at
the 100 level (spring term). Ph.D. preferred, M.A. required. Native or

The successful candidate will have a record of strong teaching, and
the ability and desire to attend primarily to elementary and
intermediate language instruction in Russian while preparing students
for further study of language and literature.

Having completed the first round of hiring for faculty to work in three multidisciplinary teams starting August 2017, we now seek to fill seven postdoctoral fellowships to supplement the teams with necessary expertise.The SAS postdoctoral fellowships will last one academic year and will involve research and teaching at the SAS BA program. Project 1: CAPITALIST TRANSFORMATIONS: HIDDEN RESISTANCE AND ECONOMIC THEORY

The goal of this project is to critically investigate contemporary capitalism from the dual perspective of qualitative sociology, anthropology, and cultural studies, on the one hand, and economics, on the other. We hope to shed light on the connections between recent political-economic crises of capitalism and multifarious resistance to capitalism. While there is a considerable literature on adaptation and resistance provoked by imbalances of contemporary capitalism, the particular economic mechanisms underlying these developments often remain hidden. Applications are especially encouraged from:

• specialists in political economy interested in studying crises and imbalances of contemporary capitalist economies. Neoliberal reforms, the dynamics of labor markets, forms of labor, and exploitation might be among the research topics. Familiarity with institutionalist and “varieties of capitalism” research approaches to capitalism is an advantage.
