Academic Program: The Central Eurasian Studies Summer Institute (U. of Wisconsin-Madison)

The Central Eurasian Studies Summer Institute (CESSI) is currently accepting applications for intensive study of Kazakh, Tajik, Uyghur, and Uzbek. CESSI 2017 will take place at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, June 19 – August 11, 2017. Information and application materials are available here:  creeca.wisc.edu/cessi

Funding Opportunities:
  • New for 2017: Title VIII Fellowships for graduate students, researchers, and professionals who are U.S. citizens. Fellowships will cover tuition and fees, as well as provide a stipend of $2,500 to cover living expenses for the summer
  • FLAS Fellowships for U.S. citizens and permanent residents
  • Fee Remission (scholarship)
**Please note: the priority deadline to apply to CESSI has been moved up to February 1, 2017. Applicants interested in a UW-Madison FLAS Fellowship must complete a separate FLAS Application by February 13, 2017. (Students from FLAS-granting institutions should apply for funding from their home campus before applying for a UW-Madison FLAS). CESSI will continue to accept applications on a rolling basis until April 3, 2017. However, financial support is not guaranteed for applications submitted after February 1.
Scheduling of all courses is contingent upon enrollment. Students should apply to CESSI as early as possible to help ensure that their desired class will be offered. CESSI 2017 will also feature a weekly lecture series (in English) on various topics of interest to people in the field of Central Eurasian studies and a rich program of cultural events and field  trips related to the countries of Central Eurasia.

The CESSI consortium is comprised of international and area studies centers at major U.S. universities working together to provide high-quality, summer instruction in the languages and cultures of Central Eurasia.
