Academic Job: T-T Asst. Prof. of Polish (UW-Madison)

The Department of German, Nordic, and Slavic at UW-Madison invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of Polish. The successful candidate will engage in the intellectual life of the department through teaching, scholarly research, and service. The position has an anticipated start date of August 19, 2019. Applications will be accepted until November 30, 2019.

A PhD or equivalent in Polish culture/Polish literature (or a related field) is required, as is native or near-native proficiency in Polish. A minimum of one year of prior teaching experience at a college or university in the United States or Canada is also required. The research field is open.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a broad range of courses related to Polish culture from fields including but not limited to cultural history, film, gender studies, literature, performing arts. The standard teaching load is four courses each academic year (two courses each semester). Candidates will be expected to be engaged in significant scholarly research and publication at the national and international levels. Service duties in the department (which will include undergraduate advising for Polish) as well at the university and professional levels as appropriate for faculty rank will be required.
