Call for Submissions: Studi Slavistici Journal

Deadline: May 15, 2020

The journal “Studi Slavistici” is pleased to invite proposals for a special issue to be published in vol. XVIII, 2021, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Ukrainian poetess, playwright, translator Lesya Ukrainka (1871-1913).

The writer has proved herself a bright modernist, whose influence on the development of Ukrainian literature cannot be overestimated. In her writings, problems of democratization of society, national liberation and emancipation were raised. The writer’s style is characterized by intellectualism, intermediality and a wide range of European literary tendencies.

Methodologies of approach to single works and various genres practiced by Lesya Ukrainka may be different, allowing fresh interpretations and deeper knowledge of the writer, her intellectual world, international literary connections, philosophical and artistic views. Her iconic image, overloaded with social and national mythologization may result in a more equilibrated evaluation in our days.

We invite authors to consider the following topics in Lesya Ukrainka’s works:

  • European artistic movements
  • Modernism and Classical heritage
  • Ukrainian past and present
  • Paganism, Christianity, Philosophy
  • The Poetical Dramas
  • Italy and Italian motives
  • Gender issues and feminism
  • LU as a translator
  • LU and folklore

Please send your title proposal with a short description in English (max 2,000 characters with spaces) and a brief biographical note (300-600 characters with spaces) to Deadline: May 15th, 2020.

Notifications of acceptance / rejection will be sent to the authors by June 30th, 2020.

If the proposal is accepted, authors are required to submit their manuscripts (max 40,000 characters, including spaces, footnotes and references) through the on-line submission system:

Deadline: November 30th, 2020.

The editorial board will take in consideration only unpublished papers which contain new approaches, materials or evaluations concerning the literary and intellectual heritage of Lesya Ukrainka. Following the editorial policy of “Studi slavistici”, all submitted papers will be sent for evaluation to two peer reviewers (double blind review).

Manuscripts may be in Italian, English, French, German, Spanish or any Slavic language.
