The Center for European Studies at the University of Florida, in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure accruing position at the rank of Lecturer, beginning summer 2022, for the position of Assistant Director.

The Center for European Studies is a Title VI National Resource Center and FLAS granting institution with grants from the US Department of Education, the Defense Language and National Security Education Office, and international grants through the European Union. We are a multidisciplinary area and language studies center focused on expanding awareness, interest and training in European studies across campus and the broader community. The Center facilitates the training of scholars and experts in European studies by providing a wide range of area studies courses in disciplines including history, sociology, political science, film studies, law, education, business, musicology, and many more. The Center promotes the learning of European less commonly taught languages (LCTLs) through language programs in Czech, Hungarian, modern Greek, Polish, and Turkish, and supports the other European language programs on campus through funding opportunities and outreach activities.

This is a forward-facing position that will require a high level of engagement with the academic community, including faculty and students, as well as with the general public and K12 community. The Assistant Director will play a key part in the Center’s outreach efforts, program development, and federal and international grant applications with a particular focus on humanities. The Assistant Director will work to build linkages with other units and faculty on campus and also within the community to promote the Center’s missions. As a central goal of the Center is to provide inclusive programming and reach broad audiences, the Assistant Director will work to create new outreach programs and materials for the K12 community that provide an inclusive and diverse perspective on European Studies. Experience with study abroad program development and management is also welcome. The teaching for this position is one to two courses per year, in a field relevant to modern European Studies. Candidates who can bring diverse perspectives to the teaching of European Studies are strongly desired.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Teaching – 1 to 2 courses per year, in a field relevant to modern European Studies with a preference for area focus in humanities.

• Grant development, oversight, and management, including fiscal and programmatic aspects. The Assistant Director will also be charged with seeking new grant opportunities for the Center.

• Support and collaborate with the CES Director and staff on the development of new programs at the local, regional, and national level

• Development of European Studies related K12 materials and outreach with a focus on diversity and inclusivity to broaden appeal and interest, including presentations at regional and national workshops and/or conferences.

• Work with CES faculty and affiliate faculty to develop new outreach initiatives and further mission of CES

• Oversee general administration of the Center and staff

The Center for European Studies particularly welcomes applicants who can contribute to a diverse and inclusive environment through their scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and professional service.
