ARISC Junior Research Fellowship
ARISC announces the availability of fellowships in support of early-career postdoctoral scholars to undertake research activities in the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia).
Eligibility: This opportunity is open to US citizens and US permanent residents who are scholars at the early postdoctoral stage – within ten years of being awarded a doctoral degree at the time of application. If the applicant is in a tenure-track position, the applicant must be pre-tenure in order to apply. Projects in all fields in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences are eligible.
Award Amount: The ARISC Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) will fund one early-career scholar at $5000 for 1-3 months of research in the South Caucasus to help cover transportation, lodging, meals and incidental expenses, and other expenses needed to support the scholar’s research in the South Caucasus.
Additional Information: The fellow will give a public presentation on their research at an ARISC-sponsored event in the South Caucasus. As part of their final reports, ARISC JRF recipients will create curricular modules and resources, incorporating their ARISC-funded research, for general education use that will be publicly available on the website. A remote option is possible (see full call on website).

ARISC Short Term Research Fellowship
ARISC announces the availability of fellowships in support of research activities in the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia).
Eligibility: The Short Term Research Fellowships (STRF) are open to U.S. citizens who are doctoral candidates or scholars who have completed their PhD. Projects in all fields in the social sciences, humanities, and related sciences are eligible. Projects proposing research on studying climate change as well as pandemic response are especially encouraged, but all strong proposals on other topics will be given full consideration.
Award Amount: Research awards will be made for $4,200 per full (30-day) month, for a maximum of 2 months total to cover transportation, lodging, and meals and incidental expenses during the scholar’s time conducting research in the South Caucasus. Scholars are expected to be in the South Caucasus for the duration of the project for a minimum of 30 days, up to 2 months total. Stipends will be pro-rated. ECA-funded programs do not support remote research projects.A fellow must be in the South Caucasus for the entirety of the time they are conducting research on this fellowship.
Additional Information: Fellows are required to present a lecture or workshop during their stay in the South Caucasus that is open to the public. ARISC encourages fellows to present their research findings in cities, towns, and villages outside of the capitals in order to engage with underserved communities.

ARISC Research and Mentoring Fellowships
ARISC announces the availability of fellowships in support of research and mentoring activities in the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and/or Georgia). The goals of the fellowship are 1) to support research in and the study of the South Caucasus; 2) to select, recognize and financially support individuals who demonstrate high potential to contribute to research in this region; 3) to support a mentoring relationship that will both develop the academic skills of the mentee and strengthen ties between the US and host country.
Eligibility: This opportunity is open to US citizens who are doctoral candidates or scholars who have completed their PhD. Projects in all fields in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences are eligible, and all projects must include one or more undergraduate and/or graduate students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and/or Georgia as part of the mentoring requirement. Projects proposing research on climate change are especially encouraged, but all strong proposals will be given full consideration .
Award Amount: Research awards will be made for an amount up to $10,000, for a period of one to three months, to help cover transportation, lodging, meals and incidental expenses, and other expenses needed to support the scholar’s research in the South Caucasus.
Additional Information: Scholars are expected to be in the South Caucasus for the duration of the project – ECA-funded programs do not support remote research projects. For ARISC fellowship purposes, mentoring is understood to involve integrating a local scholar or student into a research project in a fundamental way that involves cultivating skills and knowledge of methods that will contribute to their professional development. See examples on the website. Fellows must present an ARISC-sponsored public lecture or workshop on a subject related to their research during their residency in the South Caucasus.

ARISC announces the availability of graduate/postdoctoral fellowships in support of research in the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and/or Georgia).
Eligibility: The ARISC Graduate/Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, Canadian citizens, or Canadian permanent residents. Projects in all fields in the social sciences, humanities, and related sciences are eligible. Limited to ARISC members: student, individual, or institutional members.
Award Amount: Awards will be made for a maximum of $2,250 each. The purpose of the fellowship is to help cover travel and/or living expenses in the South Caucasus.
Additional Information: During their stay in the South Caucasus, the fellow is expected to give an ARISC-sponsored public presentation on a subject related to their research. A remote option is possible (see full call on website).

ARISC Honoraria for Lectures and Workshops
ARISC invites applications for U.S. scholars to conduct lectures and/or workshops in the South Caucasus countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. All topics in the social sciences, humanities, and related sciences are eligible, and a list of priority topics is included in the full call. Proposals will be judged on the quality of their academic caliber and on the impact to the local scholarly community. Selected applicants will be given a $250 honorarium for a lecture, or $500 for an all-day workshop. Applications for in-country and virtual lectures and workshops will be accepted. All events will be open to the public.
Eligibility: This opportunity is open to US citizens who are PhD-holding professors, lecturers, independent researchers, or PhD candidates.

ARISC Small Grants
ARISC announces the availability of small grants in support of research in the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia) for students of the South Caucasus who are working towards their doctoral, master’s, or bachelor’s degrees. Projects in all fields in the social sciences, humanities, and related sciences are eligible. The purpose of the grant is to help offset research costs for student scholars in the South Caucasus. Awards will be made for up to $300 each. Proposals will be judged on their quality and on the potential of the research to strengthen scholarship on the South Caucasus. Grantees are expected to give an ARISC-sponsored public presentation on a subject related to their research upon completion of their project. The grantee will acknowledge ARISC in any publication or presentation that emerges from the research carried out during the grant.

ARISC Travel Grants
The ARISC Conference Travel Grant promotes cooperation and exchange among South Caucasus and U.S. researchers and institutions by providing support to Armenian, Azerbaijani, and Georgian scholars and PhD students for presenting research at scholarly conferences or workshops in the U.S. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. It is recommended to submit at least 6 months in advance of the conference or workshop. Complete applications must be submitted to ARISC no later than three (3) months prior to event date. This funding opportunity is open to citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, who live in the South Caucasus, and are either PhD students or have completed their PhD. Proposals from applicants affiliated with colleges, universities, or research institutions in the South Caucasus (e.g. students, faculty, researchers) are especially encouraged, but all strong proposals will be given full consideration. The ARISC Travel Grant provides travel costs up to $3,000 USD.

ARISC Collaborative Heritage Management
Grant in Armenia
ARISC invites proposals from collaborative teams in support of the preservation and conservation of the Republic of Armenia’s archaeological and historical heritage. This ARISC program, generously funded by private donors, seeks to foster joint work between American and Armenian scholars and institutions dedicated to the proper curation and preservation of heritage materials such as artifacts, sites, and manuscripts. Successful applications will demonstrate substantive collaborations that not only contribute to heritage conservation but also demonstrate efforts to build capacity and enhance local knowledge of current techniques and approaches to heritage management. These grants require active participation of both American and Armenian principal investigators in all aspects of the collaborative project. Grants will not exceed $4000.
