Concordia Language Villages’ summer Russian immersion program “Лесное озеро” is actively recruiting a diverse pool for positions as counselors, high school credit teachers, and culinary arts staff in our residential program for kids ages 11-18, for July 19 – August 22, 2021 in Bemidji, MN. This summer’s program will follow the American Camp Association’s recommended Covid health and safety protocols, such as masks, distancing, testing, and increased time outdoors.

CFP: Nabokov Panel at MLA 2022

The International Nabokov Society invites paper proposals for a guaranteed session at MLA 2022 (Washington, D.C., 6-9 January 2022).  We invite papers on Nabokov’s languages, the transnational and  multi-lingual Nabokov, his invented languages, translation (between languages, cultures and different genres and media), Nabokov’s theory of language, Nabokov’s style,  etc.  We particularly welcome comparative, transnational, and intermedial perspectives.  Please send 250-word abstracts and brief CVs to siggy.frank@nottingham.ac.ukandzokuzmanovich@davidson.edu by 15  March 2021.

Lectureship and Basic Language Program Coordinator — University of Illinois at Chicago

The Department of Polish, Russian & Lithuanian Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for the position of Visiting Lecturer and Coordinator of the Basic Language Program in Polish and Russian. 9-month appointment, renewable on an annual basis. Start date August 16, 2021. The position will teach two language courses per semester, in either Polish or Russian language, at the intermediate or advanced level.  As BLP Coordinator, the Visiting Lecturer will work with, evaluate and modify the department’s existing, fully-developed curriculum of blended-format courses in Polish and Russian language at the beginning and intermediate levels. Responsibilities include orientation and supervision of graduate teaching assistants; student placement decisions; liaison with the Department Head and with BLP coordinators in the School of Literature, Cultural Studies and Linguistics; course scheduling; and coordination of the Polish and Russian language and film clubs.

Provided by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York, the American Councils Academic Fellowships in Russia program (AFR) supports U.S. graduate students, faculty, and independent scholars as they conduct research for three to nine consecutive months on topics within the social sciences disciplines in Russia.

Call for Applications: ASEEES Internship Grant Program

ASEEES is pleased to announce the 2021 competition for the Internship Grant Program: www.aseees.org/programs/aseees-internship-grant-program

This program provides MA, PhD, and professional school students and recent graduates with grants that make it possible for them to accept unpaid or underpaid internships in areas directly related to Russian studies. The program promotes the entry of young scholars with considerable Russian studies expertise into sectors outside of traditional academia. These internships must be in the US and should be substantial in duration and responsibilities, lasting two months for summer internships and four months for internships during a semester in the regular academic year. The grant offers $2,000 a month, to be paid directly to the grantee during their internship.

VIADRINA CHALLENGE WEEKS 2021

June 7 to July 23

12-18 ECTS / 6-9 Units

For undergraduate students of Business Administration and Social/Cultural Studies

(International Relations, Global Studies, Politics, Communication Studies,…)

The students will be able to choose between two tracks: Humanities and Social Sciences Track and the Business Administration and Economics Track. Find more information on the program, the tracks and all the course syllabi on our website: Viadrina Challenge Weeks 2021.

We are planning digitally or hybrid, but since our seminars are going to be limited to a small number of students we will be flexible and might even be able conduct some courses onsite if the pandemic allows. All those who are joining digitally will regularly meet onsite students in our virtual meeting room and will be able to take part in workshops and soft skill courses. For the students coming to Viadrina we are offering a variety of excursions and extracurricular activities to enrich their experience at the German – Polish border.
