The conference will focus on the three interconnected topics, which consist of (though are not limited to) the following themes:

EU’s enlargement strategy – Opportunities and Challenges

  • EU-Russia contested space and securitization of EU’s foreign policy
  • EU enlargement and Europeanization: conditionality vs. socialization

Eastern Partnership – Current Developments and Future Expectations

  • Europeanization and a new way of doing politics in the EaP countries
  • Impact of Europeanization on national public spheres
  • National identities in the context of Europeanization: ambiguity and perceived threats

EU-Georgia Relations

  • EU-Georgia Association Agreement: Lessons learned and opportunities created
  • Visa Liberalization and its impact on education, culture, and economy
  • Performing Europeanization in Georgia at the political and popular levels

The conference is organized within the framework of “Raising Awareness on Georgia’s Europeanization in Academia” [RAGEA] with the co-funding of Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Activities.

The School of Modern Languages in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor of Linguistics. This position is full-time with a 2/2 teaching load and is renewable for up to two years.

The successful candidate will have (1) a PhD in Linguistics or related field in hand by Aug 2018; (2) an active research and publication agenda; and (3) documented evidence of successful instruction and teaching across a range of linguistics fields.

Funding: Internships in Armenia (American Councils)

American Councils is pleased to announce a new scholarship for internships in Armenia, made possible by funding through the U.S. Department of State via the U.S. Study Abroad Grant. This scholarship offers U.S. undergraduate and graduate students exposure to the global workplace through six-week summer 2018 internships in Armenia. Students gain valuable insight and experience into Armenian businesses and industries while developing professional and intercultural skills demanded by today’s market. Internships are conducted in English, with placements available in IT, agribusiness, marketing, renewable energy, civil society, and other sectors.

Graduate Programs: Slavic Language and Literature (U. of Washington)

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Washington invites applications to its M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Literature and Slavic Linguistics starting in Fall, 2018.

UW seeks students who have had at least four years of Russian language training and other related coursework (although those with less will still be considered). They also welcome applicants who have completed an M.A. in Slavic Languages and Literatures (or related fields). Please note they require a Skype interview, conducted partly in the relevant language, as part of the application process.

Academic Job: Migration and Diaspora Studies (Ohio State University)

The Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures is seeking to fill a tenure-track position in Migration and Diaspora Studies in East/Central European and Russian literatures and cultures. Viable candidates should have a background in the migration of persons and ideas across and outside of the region, as well as work in East European/Russian diaspora communities and their literatures/cultures, and in translation and interpreting of languages and literatures/cultures. OSU is particularly interested in candidates who explore the intersection of migration and narrative studies, migration and oral histories, interpretation as a skill, and languages in the professional spheres. This position is partially funded by Ohio State’s Discovery Themes, a significant faculty hiring investment in key thematic areas in which the university can build on its culture of academic collaboration to make a global impact.
