Academic Job: Open Rank Faculty Position In Department of Slavic Languages (Columbia University)

The Department of Slavic Languages at Columbia University announces an open rank position in Russian literature and culture. The position may be filled at any rank from Assistant Professor to Professor with tenure. They are looking for a colleague with energy, vision, and a truly outstanding record in both scholarship and teaching, whose innovative research will complement the Department’s existing strengths and attract graduate students of the highest caliber. The ideal candidate will be a newly tenured faculty or someone who will soon be considered for tenure. While the period of specialization is open, expertise in the 20th or 21st century is especially desirable, as is the ability to teach poetry, film, or visual culture. The successful candidate will be expected to sustain an active research and publication agenda and teach in our undergraduate and graduate programs.

Successful candidates are expected to have native or near-native fluency in Russian. All applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand.

The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies in collaboration with the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for the position of tenure–track assistant professor, with an anticipated start in the fall semester 2018. We seek applications from scholars who work on Russia/the former Soviet Union, and Eastern or East Central Europe who specialize in the social sciences (with a preference for Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, or Political Science). Engagement in interdisciplinary and digital scholarship is welcome, and all candidates must have an active research and publication agenda. Teaching duties will include a two course per semester load and the selected candidate will be expected to exhibit a commitment to service in the department, center, college, and university, and be qualified to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as direct graduate and undergraduate student independent research.

Academic Job: Tenure-Track Position in Russian (Reed College)

The Russian department at Reed College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in Russian and the Humanities, preferably at the Assistant Professor rank, to commence August 2018. Their strong preference is for a teacher-scholar specializing in pre-twentieth century Russian literature. Expertise in an additional scholarly field (e.g., comparative literature, film/media studies, gender studies, postcolonial studies, ecocriticism) is desirable. Candidates should possess native or near-native command of both Russian and English, have successful college-level teaching experience and an ambitious research program. They must have a Ph.D. in Slavic (or a related field) in hand by the start of the appointment.

Located in Portland, Oregon, Reed is a liberal arts college with approximately 1400 students that offers a demanding academic program to bright and dedicated undergraduates. Reed College is on the semester system with a teaching load of five courses per year and senior thesis advising. In addition to courses in Russian literature and culture, members of the Russian department either teach Russian language or participate, on a rotating basis, in the team-taught freshmen humanities course. Funding Opportunity: 2017 German Chancellor Fellowship for Tomorrow’s Leaders (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation)

The German Chancellor Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is targeted at university graduates from Brazil, China, India, Russia and the USA, who have already acquired initial leadership experience and are interested in spending a year working on research-based, self-developed projects with a host of their choice in Germany, under the patronage of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. Participants must have received a Bachelor’s degree within twelve years of the program start date.

Deadline information: Applications opened on March 15 and will close on September 15. Due to the time-intensive nature of the application, students are encouraged to begin securing host affiliations as early as possible.

Job: Graduate Student Facilitator, INSPIRE (U. of Texas at Austin)

INSPIRE, an undergraduate women’s leadership program, sponsored by the Center for Women’s & Gender Studies, is seeking a graduate student to fill a position as facilitator. (Read about INSPIRE here)

This position is responsible for coordinating activities and meeting with a small group of students twice a month to introduce them to new ways of thinking about leadership, higher education, community, feminist ideas (de-stigmatizing feminism), and communication. Discussions on leadership in feminist terms will begin the process of learning critical thinking and acquiring the tools to be successful in higher education and in the professional world. This position has the potential to continue over multiple years.

The successful candidate will:
Be able to foster the initiative and creativity of the young women. The facilitator will guide the conversation, but not take control of what will be talked about and discussed, or what projects they will engage in.  The facilitator serves as a guide and mentor. Academic Job: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (Wesleyan U.)

Overview and Qualifications
Wesleyan University’s Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies Program invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2018.  Specialization is open, but we welcome the ability to teach courses on twentieth-century and contemporary Russian literature, culture, and society.  Native or near-native fluency in Russian required.  The appointment is in an interdisciplinary program and will require working with colleagues in political science, history, religion, and language and literature, so preference will be given to applicants with a proven commitment to interdisciplinarity.  Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures or a related field in hand by the time of appointment.  The teaching load is 2/2.  Additional duties include advising and mentoring students, carrying on a program of research, and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level.  Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that deeply values both scholarship and teaching, has a strong, diverse undergraduate student body, and offers a generous sabbatical program and competitive salaries and benefits. Funding Opportunity: 2018-2019 Research Fellowships (Harry Ransom Center, U. of Texas at Austin)

Deadline for Applications: November 15, 2017

For its 2018–2019 fellowship program, the Ransom Center will award 10 dissertation fellowships and up to 50 postdoctoral fellowships for projects that require substantial on-site use of its collections. The fellowships support research in all areas of the humanities, including literature, photography, film, art, the performing arts, music, and cultural history.

One- to three-month fellowships and travel stipends are open to scholars with a Ph.D. or with a substantial record of professional achievement, demonstrated on their curriculum vitae. If the Ph.D. is in-progress at the time of application, the proposal and letters of recommendation must clearly indicate completion by June 1, 2018. Successful applicants must complete the Ph.D. by this date in order to accept the fellowship. Dissertation fellowships are open to doctoral candidates engaged in dissertation research by the time of application.

Funding Opportunity: Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts (Princeton U.)

The Princeton Society of Fellows, an interdisciplinary group of scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and selected natural sciences, invites applications for the 2018-2021 Fellowship competition.

Four three-year Postdoctoral Fellowships will be awarded this year. The stipend for each of the three years of the fellowship will be approximately $86,600. In addition, fellows are provided with a shared office, a personal computer, a research account of $5,000 a year, access to university grants, benefits and other resources. Fellows are expected to reside in or near Princeton during the academic year in order to attend weekly seminars and participate fully in the intellectual life of the Society.

Academic Job: Open-Rank Position in Russian Literature (UCLA)

The UCLA Department of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Languages and Cultures invites applications for an open-rank position (tenure-track or with tenure) in Russian literature, with the hire date of July 1, 2018. We are looking for applicants with Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, possessing native or near-native fluency in Russian and English. Our focus is on candidates with a specialization in Russian literature of the Golden Age (roughly the 1790s to the 1840s), coupled with competencies and research interests in areas of interdisciplinary focus within UCLA’s Humanities Division, particularly digital, urban, environmental and medical humanities. Funding Opportunity: Postdoctoral Fellowship in Slavic Languages and Literatures (Stanford U.)

The Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship is a unique opportunity for the best recent PhD recipients in the humanities to develop as scholars and teachers. Up to four fellowships will be awarded for a two-year term (with the possibility of a third). Fellows teach two courses per year in one of Stanford’s fifteen humanities departments, and are expected to participate in the intellectual life of the program, which includes regular meetings with other fellows and faculty to share work in progress and to discuss topics of mutual interest. Fellows will also be affiliated with the Stanford Humanities Center and will have the opportunity to be active in its programs and workshops.

Eligibility:  All candidates must have received a qualified Ph.D. between January 1, 2015 and June 30, 2018.  Assistant professors, lecturers are welcome to apply.

Stipend: $77,000 (2017-2018).  “In addition to the stipend, Fellows are eligible for a full package of employee benefits and are also provided with a research account to fund research-related expenses.”
