As part of their educational mission, SIA has established a program that awards scholarships to students with a demonstrated interest in the field of international trade or related fields of study. Our hope is that the scholarship program will serve SIA’s members while also encouraging and equipping individuals to pursue a career in international trade. It is no secret in the age of Export Controls Reform (ECR) that the field is growing, and industry as well as the government have need for qualified professionals. The SIA Scholarship Program strives to assist in filling this need. In the past, scholarships have been granted to support studies in a wide variety of areas, including:

Grants of up to $5,000 are available to help support dissertation expenses of doctoral students in the United States and Canada whose studies have the potential for adding significantly to knowledge about problems in the functioning or well being of children, adults, couples, families, or communities, or about interventions designed to prevent or alleviate such problems. The research for which funding is requested must focus on the United States or Canada or on a comparison between the United States or Canada and one or more other countries.

An endowment fund at the University of Texas was established with our first contribution of $1,100 in 1934.  Contributions were made to this fund over a period of years, until the endowment reached sufficient size to support awarding of annual fellowships.  Mildred Englert is the branch member whose donation completed the endowment.  The Austin Branch has awarded graduate fellowships yearly since 1985 to women who are doctoral candidates at The University of Texas at Austin.  Beginning with the 1985-1986 academic year, ninety (90) women have received fellowships from our branch, to financially assist them in completing the final year of their doctoral studies.

The Albert M. Greenfield Foundation Dissertation Fellowship supports dissertation research in residence at the Library Company on any subject relevant to its collections. The term of the fellowship is from September 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022, with a stipend of $25,000. The award may be divided between two applicants, each of whom would receive $12,500 for the period September 1, 2021 to January 15, 2022 or January 15, 2022 to May 31, 2022.
