Lex Academic Humanities Scholarship (for Dyslexic Scholars)

Lex Academic Humanities Scholarship. Lex Academic, recognizes the important contribution of dyslexic individuals to academic research and broader society. Often meeting with discouragement in mainstream education, they believe that exceptionally promising dyslexic students deserve investment and support, helping them to realize the potential of their ideas.

The Lex Academic Humanities Scholarship is granted annually to a student studying any of the following humanities subjects: Art History; Classics; English; History; Modern Languages; and Philosophy. In addition to a grant of £500, Lex Academic Scholars will receive gratis proofreading services for their MA/PhD theses, provided by the Oxbridge-educated editors at Lex Academic.

Funding: Language Teaching and Learning Research Grants (SLI, University of Pittsburgh)

The Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) at the University of Pittsburgh will award up to two Language Teaching and Learning Research (LTLR) grants for scholars to conduct research projects on-site or remotely at Pitt’s Slavic, East European, and Near Eastern Summer Language Institute (SLI) in June–July 2021. Funded projects must focus on the teaching and learning of one or more of the following priority languages: Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Polish, Russian, Turkish, and Ukrainian. Other languages that are taught at the SLI may be included in a project proposal in addition to these priority languages; see sli.pitt.edu for the complete list of language courses offered.

Applicants may propose to be in residence in Pittsburgh for all or a portion of the two-month duration of the SLI, according to the needs of their projects. However, please note that applicants should be prepared to conduct their projects entirely remotely in the event that pandemic conditions prevent the 2021 SLI from offering in-person instruction, and/or if University of Pittsburgh restrictions on non-essential travel prohibit the use of grant funds to cover travel expenses in Summer 2021.

Title VIII Funding for Intensive Language Study (Arizona State University)

I wanted to send a final reminder regarding the opportunity for current and incoming graduate students to apply for Title VIII funding for intensive language study at ASU’s Critical Languages Institute (CLI).

The Department of State’s Title VIII program funds graduate students with U.S. citizenship to study the less commonly taught languages of Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union. ASU’s Critical Language’s Institute will welcome our 8th cohort of Title VIII Fellows in summer 2021. If you are a current or incoming graduate student who would benefit from language training and Title VIII funding, we hope to hear from you! If you know any graduate students who might benefit from our program, we hope that you share this information with them!

Funding: Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities

The Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities program supports national or regional (multistate) training programs for scholars, humanities professionals, and advanced graduate students to broaden and extend their knowledge of digital humanities. Through this program NEH seeks to increase the number of humanities scholars and practitioners using digital technology in their research and to broadly disseminate knowledge about advanced technology tools and methodologies relevant to the humanities.

Applicants may apply to create institutes that are a single opportunity or are offered multiple times to different audiences. Institutes may be as short as a few days or as long as six weeks and held at a single site or at multiples sites; virtual institutes are also permissible. Training opportunities could be offered before or after regularly occurring scholarly meetings, during the summer months, or during appropriate times of the academic year. The duration of a program should allow for full and thorough treatment of the topic; it should also be appropriate for the intended audience.

These professional development programs may focus on a particular computational method, such as network or spatial analysis. They may also target the needs of a particular humanities discipline or audience.

The Kennan Institute is pleased to announce its competitions for both the Title VIII Research Fellowship and the Title VIII Summer Grant, due January 31, 2021.

Given the current uncertainty due to the coronavirus and pandemic-related travel restrictions, we anticipate greater flexibility in the administration of fellowships. This may include the possibility of partial or fully remote work and delayed start dates for awarded fellows, contingent upon Wilson Center policies and grant requirements.

The Appleman Graduate Fellowship supports conference participation and research (including travel and equipment) on Jewish topics, and language training relevant to pursuing Jewish Studies research.

General Eligibility:

Any student enrolled in a graduate program at UT who undertakes research on any Jewish topic in the course of their graduate career.

Amount: Reimbursement up to $2,000

ROTC Scholarship for Project GO (Global Officers) Intensive Russian Study (University of Pittsburgh)

The University of Pittsburgh invites Army, Navy/Marine, and Air Force ROTC students from any US college or university to apply for a Pitt Project GO (Global Officers) scholarship for intensive study of 1st-4th year Russian in Summer 2021. Project GO is an initiative sponsored by the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO) and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Students who have not yet begun their pursuit of Russian are encouraged to apply for an 8-week beginning-level class, which will cover the equivalent of one academic year’s worth of language training. The beginning-level classes, offered by Pitt’s Summer Language Institute (SLI), are held at the University’s main campus in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh from June 7–July 30, 2021. Funding: Cohen-Tucker Dissertation Fellowship in Russian Historical Studies

The Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies invites applications for the 2021-2022 Stephen F. Cohen- Robert C. Tucker Dissertation Fellowship Program in Russian Historical Studies, funded by the KAT Charitable Foundation.

For the 2020-2021 academic year, the Cohen-Tucker Dissertation Fellowship Program will provide:

· up to five Dissertation Research Fellowships, with a maximum stipend of $25,000, to doctoral students at US and Canadian universities, who are citizens or permanent residents of the US, to conduct dissertation research in Russia;

· a Dissertation Completion Fellowship, with a maximum stipend of $25,000, to a doctoral student at a US or Canadian university, who is a citizen or permanent resident of the US, to complete their dissertation during the fellowship tenure.
