Study Abroad: Vanderbilt University’s Maymester (Russia)

The program includes community service, lectures on topics being explored by student-participants (politics, economics, sociology, culture, history, art, etc.), Russian language lessons, interaction with Russian university students, excursions to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and provincial towns, home stays, and opportunities for reflection.

Study Abroad: Russian Language/Math (Moscow)

The Summer U. or REU can be combined with courses of Russian language on various levels, starting from beginners. Summer is a great time in Moscow, when there is a lot of sun, weather is rather cool and it will not interfere with the regular studies. Participants can choose to stay up to two months or just two weeks, according to their interest, schedule and travel plans. Students from all over the globe live in HSE affordable and safe dorms and enjoy various activities together.

Study Abroad: Russian Language Summer School (Yerevan, Armenia)

ASPIRANTUM Armenian School of Languages and Cultures in Yerevan organizes International Russian Language Summer School in Yerevan, Armenia to take place from July 07 to August 17 (6 weeks) or July 07 to July 27 (3 weeks), 2019.

This 42 or 21 days summer school offers participants to master skills in written and oral modern Russian, reading and interpreting Russian texts from different periods as well as rapidly deepening their knowledge in colloquial Russian.

During the summer school several cultural trips will be offered, which will transform your stay in Armenia into an unforgettable, academically oriented endeavour.

On the first day (July 07, Sunday) the program will be launched in Garni, built by king Tiridates I in the first century AD as a temple to the god Mithra/Mihr. In the evening the group will travel to Yerevan for an opening dinner.

Classes will start on July 8th and will include lectures, seminars and presentations.

This Russian Language Summer School is designed for students, at least 18 years-old, who not only want to make well-grounded progress in their knowledge of the Russian language, but also to deepen their knowledge of Russian Studies and Armenia.

The 6 weeks summer schools offers an intensive Russian language course spanning 120 hours, divided into 30 days of instruction and focusing on grammar, reading, speaking, and writing.

The 3 weeks summer schools offers an intensive Russian language course spanning 60 hours, divided into 15 days of instruction and focusing on grammar, reading, speaking, and writing.

Our courses are open to anyone with upper elementary (knowledge of alphabet, some reading and knowledge of basic grammar concepts) or intermediate knowledge of the Russian language. The lectures are organized with the academic interests of the participants in mind to ensure that BA, MA, PhD students as well as post-docs and professors who work in Russian Studies and relevant fields can benefit from it.

Lectures will be held in Russian and/or English.

Our teachers of Russian is a native speaker who has several years’ experience in teaching Russian as a foreign language.

Funding: Project GO Scholarships for ROTC Students (U. of Pittsburgh)

Pitt Project GO Scholarships for Intensive Summer Russian Language Study by ROTC Students

About the program: The University of Pittsburgh invites Army, Navy/Marine, and Air Force ROTC students from any US college or university to apply for a Pitt Project GO (Global Officers) scholarship for intensive study of 1st- 4th year Russian in Summer 2019. Project GO is sponsored by the federal Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO) and administered nationally by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Students who have not yet begun their pursuit of Russian are encouraged to apply for an 8-week beginning-level class, which will cover the equivalent of one academic year’s worth of language training. The beginning-level classes, offered by Pitt’s Summer Language Institute (SLI), are held at the University’s main campus in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh from June 3 – July 26, 2019. Pitt Project GO scholarships for Beginning Russian cover:
•       Full tuition for 8 University of Pittsburgh credits

Internship: The Altai Project (Altai)

The Altai region, encompassing land in Russia, Kazakhstan, China, and Mongolia, is a unique environment home to many threatened and endangered species. Historical artifacts, such as petroglyphs and burial mounds, dating all the way back to the Stone Age are located in the relatively untouched region, with local significance for indigenous populations and international visitors. The region is in danger from climate change, poaching, and increased tourism leading to more construction and energy projects.

The Altai Project has regular short-term opportunities and internships for people with relevant expertise to get involved: natural sciences, issues of concern to indigenous peoples, climate change, alternative energy and energy conservation, natural building and sustainable design, land use planning, wildlife biology.

They are also in regular need of volunteer translators (Russian, Altaian, and English), web support, graphic designers/desktop publishing, and writers/editors.

Lang. Training: Russian Immersion Summer Camp (Bemidji, MN)

Concordia Language Villages’ summer Russian immersion program “Лесное озеро” is recruiting counselors in their residential program for kids ages 6-18, for July 8 – August 11, 2019, in Bemidji, MN.

Counselors teach Russian language and culture in an informal program with extensive mentoring and support, and also lead “camp”-type activities (canoeing, art, etc.) and supervise cabins. These positions are appropriate for those with abundant energy and a dedication to and background in work with children and teens. They do not require teaching experience, as staff are provided with intensive teacher training, a very thorough curriculum, and in-service support. Especially needed are applicants with experience in outdoor skills/nature/ecology, folk art, guitar/balalaika/domra, Central Asia and/or the Caucuses. Continue reading “Lang. Internship: Winter English Camp (Cosmopolitan)- Two spots left!

Educational Center “Cosmopolitan” has only two vacant spots available for their winter internship program. These will take place at the children’s camp just outside Novosibirsk, the administrative capital of Siberia and the centre of Russia. The dates of the program are January 3rd through January 12th, 2019.

These positions are open to university students. No previous teaching experience, no previous knowledge of Russian is required. Interning at this camp, students will gain valuable skills and experience for their future profession while being immersed in the Russian culture and having intensive practice in the Russian language. This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the coolest festive season in Siberia with lots of exciting events, and experience all the winter fun one could dream of in just ten days.

This program will be an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable skills and experience for their future profession. They will be immersed in Russian culture, receive intensive practice in Russian language, and interact with real Russian people. Students will receive room and board, visa support, transportation, and formal Russian lessons during their stay. Interested students should contact the Program Director for more information, including participation fees.

Students who wish to spend more time in Russia and are still looking for internship opportunities may be interested in the Russian language study internship. Free accommodation is provided in Novosibirsk throughout the academic year. The dates are flexible and interested students should contact the Center to discuss further details.

Study Abroad: Trans-Siberian Summer (UNH)

Unique Trans-Siberian Study Abroad Program, University of New Hampshire

What is the program?
The UNH Russia Program is a unique summer study abroad opportunity for all interested students to experience first-hand the vastness of Russia. Students travel with UNH faculty and study Russian language, culture, and history with stays in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and a trip across the country on the Trans-Siberian Railroad! Visits include cultural, historical, and political venues (including the Duma, Kremlin, Hermitage, WWII bunker, Gulag Museum, Tatar hat workshop, hiking around Lake Baikal, participate in traditional Russian folk wedding, Lenin’s house in Gorki, banya, Russo-Japanese war fortresses and bunkers in Vladivostok) with readings and discussion at each site.

4 Week and 8 Week Programs

4 Week program: Earn 8 UNH credits studying culture and history while traveling to St. Petersburg, Moscow and on to Siberia, with stops in Kazan, Irkutsk, Lake Baikal, Arshan (a village in Buryatiya) and ending in Vladivostok. No prior study of Russian language is required. Survival Russian included in pre-departure and in-country work. All students with an interest in Russian history, politics and culture should apply. Tentative program dates: May 23-June 25.

8 Week program: After the above 4 weeks of travel, students stay in Moscow and have language classes taught by faculty from Language Link. Earn an addition 8 credits studying Russian language (grammar, conversation and phonetics at the appropriate level with 4 additional hours a week of conversational work.) These credits are issued by Language Link. Tentative program dates: May 23-July 23.

Pre-departure orientation sessions (via Skype) and pre-departure assignments (reading, lectures and work done on-line with a UNH faculty member.)
