Acad. Job: Lecturer in Russian Language and Culture (Ohio State University)

Job posting: The Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures at The Ohio State University invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Russian Language and Culture, beginning August 2022. While area of specialization is open, we are seeking a dynamic and talented instructor of Russian who can contribute to department strengths in any of the following areas: film (Russian and East European), popular culture, gender, literature, migration studies, and translation. Qualified applicants must hold a PhD in Russian/Slavic languages and cultures or related discipline by the time of appointment and have teaching experience in North America. Fluency in Russian and English is required. Proficiency in another Slavic language is desired. The successful candidate will teach 22-24 credit hours per year, both in English and in Russian (lower-level language courses are 4 cr.). The final course load will depend on service assignments which may include curriculum development, undergraduate advising, student organization mentorship, among others. This is a one-year appointment with the potential for renewal.

Lang. Training: Intensive Russian/Russian Cinema Courses (Stony Brook University)

1) Stony Brook University will offer the following online summer courses: Contemporary Russian Cinema (in English), 6 weeks. Intensive Elementary Russian I, II (2 semesters), 8 weeks. Both courses start on May 24. You can write me for more information and/or check StonyBrook.edu/summer

2) Stony Brook is offering an ACE (Accelerated College Education) program in Russian for high school students across the US. The possible courses include Elementary Russian and Russian for Heritage Speakers. This program allows students from high schools that offer Russian to receive university credit for their high school courses.

The Anglo-Russian Research Network (ARRN) is pleased to announce a conference to be held in-person at the University of Exeter on Thursday 21-Friday 22 July 2022.  

We welcome proposals for panels and individual papers on any aspect of Anglo-Russian cultural relations, broadly defined, from the late nineteenth century (c. 1850 onwards) to the present day, and from all relevant disciplines, including, but not limited to:  

– History 

– Art history 

– Literary, translation and reception studies 

– Film studies

2022-23 Research Assistantships, 9-month 25% appointment

The European Union Center is seeking applications for two research assistants with interest in research, outreach activities, and academic development. Each position, contingent on funding, is a 9-month, 25% appointment for the 2022-2023 academic year with potential for summer hourly funding and continued funding during subsequent years. A tuition and fee waiver is possible, depending on the applicant’s graduate program. Some travel within the community may be required along with working evenings and weekends as needed. These positions support the distinctive work of the EU Center, one of five centers in the country that is both a U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center and an Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Center of Excellence. Research Associate for the project “PANCOPOP: Pandemic Communication in Times of Populism”

Full-time and fixed-term for 21 months, starting 1st May 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the PANCOPOP Project, led by Professor Sabina Mihelj from the Communication and Media division in the School of Social Sciences and Humanities. The project involves an international team of researchers who will develop a comprehensive, comparative study of health crisis communication in the context of populist politics, bringing significant advances in knowledge at the intersection of political communication and public health. The focus will be on four countries that were led by populist leaders during the pandemic, and which capture different types of populist responses to the pandemic: Brazil, Poland, Serbia, and the U.S.

Acad. Job: Lecturer in Armenian History (University of California, Berkeley)

The Department of History and the Armenian Studies Program at the University of California, Berkeley seek to appoint a Lecturer in Armenian history for the 2022-23 academic year, with the possibility of renewal. In addition to courses in Armenian history, the successful appointee should be able to teach courses of a regional, thematic, or topical focus that include Armenia or the Armenian people.

Applicants should be fluent in Armenian and in English, and applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent international degree) or be enrolled in a PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application. A PhD (or equivalent international degree) and demonstrated teaching experience at the college or university level are required by the start date. A legal permit to work in the United States is also required by the appointment start date.
