The 19th Annual Aleksanteri Conference explores interactions between technologies, societies, and cultures across Eurasia. They will bring together leading experts in Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian studies, as well as researchers from digital humanities to examine how said interactions are reconfigured in the context of past and future technological change. Grad. Program: Funded PhD Fellowships (Uni. Exeter)

Deadline for Applications: April 15, 2019

Applications are now open for three fully funded PhD studentships within the European Research Council-funded project, “The Dark Side of Translation: 20th and 21st Century Translation from Russian as a Political Phenomenon in the UK, Ireland, and the USA” (RusTrans), under the supervision of Dr. Muireann Maguire and Dr. Cathy McAteer at the University of Exeter, UK, starting in September 2019.

The studentships are for 3.5 years and are open to students of any nationality. Each studentship will cover University tuition fees with a stipend equivalent to the Research Councils UK national minimum stipend (£14,777 in 2018/19). Candidates will be expected to have completed a Master’s degree by the time of starting the studentship; they should not yet have formally commenced a doctoral project.

Study Abroad: Baltics Program by CUNY (Latvia)

Deadline for Applications: March 21, 2019

The Division of Russian and Slavic Studies Program at Hunter College of the City University of New York has announced the second round of its 4-week study abroad program in the Baltics in July, 2019! The program includes a literature course “The Baltic Transit in Russian Literature” (taught in English, with the option of signing up for a “Russian” section), Russian language courses of different levels, and a literary translation workshop. The program is designed for CUNY students but is open for all!
Credits earned during the program are transferable to the students’ home universities.

Lang. Training: STARTALK Summer Russian (Middlebury)

The applications are now open for the STARTALK Summer program at Middlebury College Davis School of Russian.

The principles of second language acquisition and proficiency-based instruction will serve as the foundation for this intensive pedagogy program.

The Institute includes 10 days of online classes and a residential session on campus, both required.

Funding: $8,000 Language Fellowships for Summer 2019 Intensive Language Study Abroad Programs (American Councils)

American Councils has Title VIII Language Fellowships available to help students pursue intensive language study in Russia, Eurasia, and the Balkans with American Councils this coming summer.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State, Title VIII fellowships are available to students enrolled in or intending to enroll in graduate study in a field relevant to U.S. policy regarding Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Academic Job: Tenure-Track Professor in Humanities (HSE, Moscow)

The Higher School of Economics’ School of Philology in Moscow, Russia, invites applications for a tenure-track full-time position of Assistant / Associate / Full Professor in literary studies and digital humanities.

Part of the Faculty of Humanities, the School offers one bachelors’ and two masters’ programs in Russian and comparative literature. The research focus of the faculty are literary history, poetics, typology and theory of Russian, European and American literatures, comparative studies, translation studies, history and theory of culture, and digital humanities.

They are looking for a colleague with a research interest in one or more of these fields, preferably digital humanities. An experience in joint projects is a plus. The teaching load will include teaching a course in a field of the applicant’s expertise as well as an advanced course in English, German, Italian, or Spanish and a course in literary analysis in the same language (18th-21st centuries).

The deadline for applications is February 15, 2019.

American Councils for International Education is offering U.S. Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad (GPA) fellowships for advanced overseas Russian and Persian language study. Funding: American Councils Summer Internship Program—Business, Technology, and Innovation Scholarships (Moscow)

American Councils is pleased to announce that the Business, Technology, and Innovation (BTI) Scholarship offers travel, lodging, and tuition support for U.S. students participating in an American Councils summer internship program in Moscow for Summer 2019.

Funding: HI USA Explore the World Travel Scholarship

Deadline: March 2, 2019

Hostelling International is offering five $2,000 travel scholarship exclusively for Austin area residents!

The program is called Explore the World, and it’s administered by the nonprofit organization, Hostelling International USA (HI USA). HI USA is committed to creating a more tolerant world, and these scholarships are for young travelers inspired to make the world a better place, but lack the financial means to go abroad.

The scholarship is open to individuals, ages 18-30, who will engage in an educational or service learning component during their trip.  Eligible candidates must also meet specific financial need requirements. More information can be found at www.hiusa.org/travel-scholarships.
