General Facility Information

Building Manager – MRH “Music and Recital Hall”

Nita Isom
nita.isom@austin.utexas.edu
512 471 2725
MRH 3.810

MRH is the current designation that appears on all official university maps but BSOM occupies a space that was previously considered two connected buildings: the western portion of MRH was once called MBE “Music Building East”. That designation is used internally and by Lock and Key Services ONLY. Do not use that designation when communicating with constituencies outside of BSOM.

Building Hours and BACS (Proximity Card) Access

The hours for regular operations at MRH are as follows:

Monday-Saturday 8am-10pm
Sunday 10am-10pm

During summer and winter breaks hours will be truncated.

Students may remain in the building until 2am with a University ID
Faculty and Staff have 24/7 access with their University ID

If you experience any issues with access contact the building manager . Please include your EID.

Practice Rooms on 5th and 6th floors

Practice room facilities are for BSOM students and students from other schools/colleges who are registered for a BSOM class for which an instrument is required.

Classroom teaching consoles

Classroom teaching consoles are maintained by the College of Fine Arts IT team. During business hours you can call 512 232 4400 for immediate service and support. If you experience chronic issues or malfunctions contact the building manager. Please include the room number.

Building Emergencies

If you feel unsafe in MRH dial 911 from an office phone or your cell phone. The call will route to UTPD. Their response time is excellent given our proximity to their station.

For additional campus emergency information, see the Emergency Preparedness website.

Safety Hub

MRH has a safety hub supplied by Emergency Preparedness that is located on the 2nd floor in the elevator lobby. The hub includes:

  • A sign with the building location
  • An emergency call box
  • An AED cabinet

The safety hub is connected to a local alarm which is activated when opened, but does not automatically connect to UTPD. The call box connects the caller directly to UTPD.

Maintenance Requests (including Pest Control)

All routine maintenance items should be sent to the building manager. Routine maintenance includes day-to-day items such as lights out, too hot/too cold, locks, drains, broken glass, etc. If a facility issue arises that needs immediate attention, contact the building manager or call the Facilities Services Department at 512 471 2020 to initiate a maintenance request.

The after-hours facility emergency number is also 512 471 2020.

Office Cleaning and Trash Pickup

The Facilities Services Department is responsible for servicing MRH’s public areas and private offices. Service includes daily maintenance of public areas and monthly cleaning of private offices. Occupants should take large items to the dumpster enclosure in the loading dock or make arrangements with the building manager for removal.

Office Furniture and Surplus Property

BSOM does not maintain a regular inventory of furniture for offices. If you need furniture for your office, contact the building manager to inquire about what items have yet to be sent to Surplus Property. Additionally, you can go to Surplus Property’s facility in North Austin to find a regular stock of office furniture and other things owned by the university.

Do not dump furniture or any technological equipment anywhere in the building.

If you need to get rid of something, including old computers and other electronic equipment, contact the building manager to sort out the details of removal.
