Comp Tickets

Ticketed Ensemble Concert Policies

For ticketed ensemble concerts in Bates (Concert Chorale, Jazz Orchestras, Symphony Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble), we protect a minimum of 300 tickets to sell. Additionally, we protect 100 comp tickets for UT students and Butler School faculty and staff. That leaves approximately 250 tickets that may be dispersed as comps to guests of the ensemble director, AISD school groups, or to leave for sale.

Austin concert-goers and family members of student players tend to purchase tickets late (within 48 hours before the concert). Because of this, we ask faculty to be mindful about the number of comp tickets promised. Every comp ticket we hold is a seat we cannot sell.

The Box Office manager will send a report on ticket sales and comp ticket holds one week prior to a ticketed ensemble concert to all impacted staff and faculty.

If you need to hold seats for any production, please notify Page Stephens (pagestephens@austin.utexas.edu) as soon as you can. This is crucial, as we must remove those seats from sale.

Requesting comps

. . . as a performer/director

Please send your comp ticket requests to the Box Office Manager at tickets@mail.music.utexas.edu as soon as you are able, no later than one week prior to your performance. Please include names of guests and how many tickets to reserve for them. Your guests can pick those tickets up at Will Call. Do not promise anyone comp tickets within a week of the performance, as seats may not be available! Please check in with the Box Office before promising anyone comp tickets within the week of the show to be sure we can accommodate those additional comps.

. . . as an audience member

Butler School of Music faculty and staff can receive one free ticket by

  1. Emailing the request to tickets@mail.music.utexas.edu; tickets can be emailed to you to print or held at will call, or
  2. Stop by the box office during regular business hours to pick up a ticket.

If you need to purchase additional tickets, use the UT Faculty/Staff discounted rate!
