Fellowships for Doctoral Candidates at The University of Texas at Austin (American Association of University Women)

Deadline: March 22, 2021

An endowment fund at the University of Texas was established with our first contribution of $1,100 in 1934. Contributions were made to this fund over a period of years, until the endowment reached sufficient size to support awarding of annual fellowships. Mildred Englert is the branch member whose donation completed the endowment. The Austin Branch has awarded graduate fellowships yearly since 1985 to women who are doctoral candidates at The University of Texas at Austin. Beginning with the 1985-1986 academic year, ninety (90) women have received fellowships from our branch, to financially assist them in completing the final year of their doctoral studies.

The Albert M. Greenfield Foundation Dissertation Fellowship (Library Company of Philadelphia)

The Albert M. Greenfield Foundation Dissertation Fellowship supports dissertation research in residence at the Library Company on any subject relevant to its collections. The term of the fellowship is from September 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022, with a stipend of $25,000. The award may be divided between two applicants, each of whom would receive $12,500 for the period September 1, 2021 to January 15, 2022 or January 15, 2022 to May 31, 2022.

C4ADS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing data-driven analysis and evidence-based reporting on global conflict and transnational security issues.

We use cutting-edge technologies to manage, integrate, and analyze disparate data from diverse languages, regions, and sources, incorporating our own field research from conflict zones and fragile states. We seek to engage with local and international audiences and produce compelling analysis on conflict and security issues. For all Russian language learners: Master Class in Russian pronunciation is being offered this spring. Our mission: to learn to sound authentically Russian! It is a free six-session class held via Zoom.

Call for Submissions: 2021 National Post-Secondary Russian Essay Contest (ACTR)

The American Council of Teachers of Russian is pleased to announce the 2021 National Post-Secondary Russian Essay Contest! Registration for the contest is open now. Deadline for registration for the 2021 Contest is Feb. 8th. NO LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED! The contest should be held from February 15th to the 25th, and all essays must be submitted by Feb. 28th.

Please note that, barring any COVID-related setbacks, we hope to announce the essay contest results by mid-April. For more registration details and more information about the administration of the contest this year, please visit the ACTR website.

The Graduate Initiative in Russian Studies at the Middlebury Institute for International Studies at Monterey welcomes applications for the fifth Monterey Summer Symposium on Russia which will be held online from June 28 through August 4. We welcome applications from your best graduate students as well as emerging experts with commitment to the field of Eurasian Studies. Advanced Russian language skills are required. English and Russian are the working languages of the MSSR. The Symposium is funded by Carnegie Corporation of New York.

The Center for Global Studies (CGS) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is excited to announce the 2021 International Studies Research Lab (ISRL), an initiative that promotes the internationalization of community colleges nationwide. CGS invites applications from faculty, librarians, and administrators interested in expanding global and area studies curricula, instruction in less commonly taught languages, library collections, or international education programs at their home institutions. The Center is a National Resource Center supported by Title VI funds from the U.S. Department of Education.

The lab will be held in a virtual format from May 17th through July 30th. Applications are due March 16th.

CFP: Yoga in Russia: Past and Present (2021 ASEEES Convention)

We are seeking two to three participants for our panel “Yoga in Russia: Past and Present” at the 2021 ASEEES Convention in New Orleans.

This panel seeks to examine the theory and practice of yoga in Russia as a peculiarly Russian phenomenon and as part of a global health and spiritual movement. Relevant topics include:

Yogic practices as part of interest in “Eastern” wisdom in the late Russian Empire
The theory and practice of yoga in Russia as relation to those in the West
“Russian Yogis:” Elena Roerich, Indra Devi, and other practitioners and popularizers
