Peace Corps Moldova seeks Health Education Volunteers to work with children and adolescents (aged 8-18) throughout the country. Volunteers will support children and youth in developing life skills and knowledge for healthy lifestyles, including basic hygiene, prevention methods of communicable diseases (such as tuberculosis, viruses, gastrointestinal diseases, STIs, HIV, COVID), behavioral health (like physical fitness, stress management, healthy eating habits, reduction of alcohol or tobacco consumption, and violence prevention) as well as the prevention of substance abuse and non-communicable diseases (such as diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and chronic respiratory difficulties). Health Education Volunteers do not engage in clinical work.

Schools are often the strongest community institution in Moldovan towns and villages, making students in these settings an ideal audience for needed instruction. The majority of Health Education Volunteers’ time is spent co-planning with school partners to perform formal and informal health education activities using student-centered techniques. It also involves co-teaching with local teachers and other partners in the local language to increase youth’s knowledge and skills so they lead healthy lives and transition into healthy, productive, and engaged adults. The Volunteer’s formal teaching schedule is from Monday to Friday. 

In addition to their teaching responsibilities, Health Education Volunteers support the research and development of evidence-based, supplementary teaching materials for health lessons, campaigns, and clubs through close collaboration with their school staff and community professionals. Volunteers also organize and conduct after-school activities including health clubs, health and life skills day camps for school-aged youth, and health awareness campaigns for youth and adults with the involvement of school youth leaders. Activities are generally developed in collaboration with local professionals and parents as well.

The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects. The OSCE Secretariat in Vienna assists the Chairpersonship in its activities, and provides operational and administrative support to the field operations, and, as appropriate, to other institutions. 

The Transnational Threats Department (TNTD), as part of the OSCE Secretariat in Vienna, Austria, plays a key role as the focal point of OSCE-wide programmatic activities aiming at countering transnational threats and ensuring co-ordination and coherence of action across all three OSCE dimensions, among all executive structures while respecting their mandates.

The Kennan Institute is glad to announce a new opportunity for a Deputy Director position. The incumbent will work with the Kennan Institute Director to develop a wide range of initiatives on programming in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Eurasia. This job will remain open until March 7, 2023.

Responsibilities for this position include the following:

• Independently collaborates and engages with Director with all phases of producing publications.
• Conducts independent and team-based scholarly research and policy analysis on various programmatic initiatives.
• Fundraising and grant reporting duties: identifies funding opportunities and prepares grant applications; coordinates new grants as assigned; and prepares grant reports and other materials requested by funders.
• Provides financial oversight support to Director to include budget preparation and review.
• Leads Program internship program, to include review and selection of applicants and supervision of hired interns.
• Advises on creation of programmatic strategic plan; leads on executing this plan in accordance to established timelines set by the Program Director.
• Oversees all scholars-in-residence (Title VIII, WWC, Public Policy Fellows, George F. Kennan Fellows) and ensures implementation of research and strategic plans.
• Maintains liaison with local, national, and international organizations related to the advancement of Russian, Ukrainian, and Eurasian studies.
• Brings knowledge of current academic, government, and private organizations concerned with post-Soviet studies.

Resident Director, Russian Overseas Flagship Program 2023 (paycomonline.net)

The Russian Overseas Flagship (ROF) program, located in Almaty, Kazakhstan, assists learners of Russian to reach Superior or higher levels of proficiency. The Overseas Flagship program consists of intensive, structured language instruction; direct enrollment in relevant courses at the host institution; internships; and homestay boarding with native speakers of the target language.

The Overseas Flagship Program Resident Director serves as American Councils’ representative in Almaty in the areas of participants’ health, safety, and program logistics. He/she must be available to program participants on a daily basis, observe classes regularly, meet with administrators and students, help students attend medical appointments, arrange group travel and cultural programs, maintain the office and student lounge, coordinate with local program assistants and with AC representatives at regional offices, and perform other tasks. The Resident Director must be available to participants during any emergencies that arise and must communicate regularly with host institution representatives in Kazakhstan and American Councils staff in Washington, DC. The Resident Director attends American Councils pre-departure orientation programs in Washington, DC, travels to Kazakhstan with the student group at the beginning of the program and returns to Washington, DC with the group at the end of the program. The Resident Director reports to the ROF Program Manager in Washington, DC.

EMPLOYMENT DATES: As soon as June 1, 2023 and not later than Aug.1, 2023, until May 31, 2024, with possible continuation into the following academic year.

Program Officer Baku, Azerbaijan -2023 (paycomonline.net)

American Councils administers a number of programs funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State, including the Future Leader’s Exchange (FLEX) program, which provides scholarships for competitively selected teenagers from Europe and Eurasia. The Program Officer for Azerbaijan is intended to be based in Baku and some travel within the region may be required.  The PO will oversee functions related to FLEX as well as other programs in Azerbaijan and the region including on-site coordinating and teaching during pre-departure orientations (PDO); assisting with logistics for departure and return of finalists; recruiting qualified candidates for the program; and arranging and participating in the interviewing and testing of semi-finalists. This position includes extensive travel throughout Azerbaijan with the possibility of temporary duty assignments in other overseas locations as assigned. This position reports to the Country Representative in Azerbaijan and works in conjunction with program managers in Washington, DC.

The Research Group “Light On! Queer Literatures and Cultures under Socialism,” funded by the Volkswagen Foundation within the framework of the Freigeist Program in 2022–2027 at the University of Regensburg, invites applications for a position of doctoral researcher in LGBTQ+ literary cultures in Poland during the socialist era, to start as agreed (due to admin timeframes, the position can start in Jun 2023 or later). The position is remunerated according to TVL E-13 scale at 65 % of work time.

We invite proposals on a wide range of topics including, but not limited to:
– lesbian, gay, trans, bi- and queer literatures in Poland between 1945 and 1989
– LGBTQ+ literary cultures in socialist Poland (literary evenings, journals, zines, apartment theaters, etc.)
– unknown poetics and narratives of queerness in prose, drama, and/or poetry in socialist Poland
– censorship of LGBTQ+ literary subjectivities under the socialist rule, beyond the well-known cases
– transnational networks of LGBTQ+ literatures: circulations of texts, queer self-publications and publications abroad during the socialist rule

– queer literature and the Solidarity movement.

The Department of Gender Studies at Central European University (CEU, Austria) invites applications for a 36-month fixed-term position as Junior Visiting Researcher to conduct research within the framework of Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Network project “EUTERPE: European Literatures and Gender from a Transnational Perspective”. The position includes fully funded enrollment in the PhD program of the Department of Gender Studies, the Doctoral Candidate is tasked with writing a PhD thesis within the area “Transnational turn in literary studies: Looking from Central and Eastern Europe”.  

Contract starting date: 1 September 2023 

We welcome applications from candidates with an MA degree in Humanities, a demonstrable interest and experience in Gender Studies and Literature, a willingness to undertake two months of guided internship at an Associate Partner of the DC’s choice, as well as a willingness to spend a period of 6 months on secondment at the University of Oviedo (Spain).

Funded independently through a subscription service, several multi-year grants from donors, multiple ad-hoc grants, donations, and corporate sponsorship, we are expanding our operations in Europe.

In particular, we are set to:

• Expand media cooperation in CEE to foster voices on democratic security,
• Build a thriving community around Res Publica Nowa (Polish), Visegrad Insight & New Europe 100,
• Carry out several EU-policy strategic foresight projects (see key examples from 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019), and
• Produce new foresight reports that will focus business and public sector attention.
