Job: Program Coordinator (Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars)

Duties

Program Support:

Coordinate, plan, and execute events, meetings, and conference calls.
Work with Kennan staff to develop and execute high-level briefing events at the Wilson Center and elsewhere.
Keep abreast of policy and legislative developments associated with Russia which may provide opportunities for expert engagement with policy stakeholders.
Provide overall assistance for Kennan Institute programming and operations.
Provide administrative support for scholars in residence and alumni in the U.S., Russia, Ukraine and the region.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

New Research Fellowships (Center for Jewish History)

The Center for Jewish History is proud to announce the creation of an expanded fellowship program. The program features four new endowed 10-month fellowships in addition to one existing 12-month fellowship and two short-term fellowships. The seven fellowships constitute the nucleus of a projected Institute for Advanced Jewish Historical Research.

The fellowships will support original research using the collections of the Center’s five partners: American Jewish Historical Society, American Sephardi Federation, Leo Baeck Institute, Yeshiva University Museum, and YIVO Institute. Preference will be given to those candidates who draw on the archival and library resources of more than one partner institution. The fellowships are open to a range of senior scholars, early career scholars, and advanced graduate students who have completed all the requirements (i.e., coursework, exams, dissertation proposal) for the doctoral degree apart from the dissertation.

Hungarian Cultural Studies—the peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published each summer by the American Hungarian Educators Association—is inviting submissions for our 2024 issue.

Our mission is to publish scholarly, cutting-edge content dedicated to Hungarian studies across the humanities and social science disciplines—including original articles, book reviews, and review articles.

We particularly welcome thematic clusters comprising three or more articles on a unifying theme.

Russian Language Journal is entertaining proposals for the special issue of Volume vol 74/issue 2 (printed issue), to be published in December 2024. Thematic issues of Russian Language Journal focus on areas of current interest and are an excellent venue to bring together in one issue numerous approaches to a methodology or an issue in Slavic linguistics and language teaching. We are particularly interested in publishing a special issue on Slavic linguistics, literature-language intersections, corpus linguistics, digital studies, sociolinguistics, and language acquisition, decolonization in Slavic Studies, but other proposals will also be considered.

Job: Native Slovenian Speaker Wanted

RESPONSIBILITIES

Create and manage glossaries, style guides, and other linguistic and cultural assets. As our language POC, you will provide feedback to a wide variety of teams to establish localization quality requirements and connect with the Lab Operations team and LPMs when those requirements are not met.
Qualify a variety of products and services through both manual and automated UI testing.
With the added support of internal and external vendors, ensure the best quality output for customers across all deliverables for your specific language.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams across multiple time zones to identify the best localization strategies around new and current brands.
Drive linguistic bugs resolution and communicate localizability, functional, and layout issues promptly to the project LPMs. Beyond reporting on issues found, provide pertinent information and follow solutions to their conclusion.
Provide feedback and recommendations on product and UX design, and flag potential cultural sensitivity issues.
Look for opportunities to optimize workflow, tools, and processes to help the team scale.
Implement and foster globalization/internationalization/ localization best practices.

Department Specific Responsibilities

Oversees, manages, and provides overall direction for all administrative aspects necessary for the success of the Russian Flagship Program.
Provides administrative assistance as needed, shares tutor-lists and student-lists with the IU Language Workshop.
Serves as point of contact for administrative issues with Indiana University units (IUTS, CeLT, Global Living and Learning Community, Overseas Study, etc.), federal and other funders, and other external agencies.
Facilitates activities with other Flagship programs. Directly supervises support and temporary staff and coordinates workflow for the Program.
Takes lead role in writing and revising position descriptions, and serves on all program search committees.
Trains new staff and monitors performance.
Formulates program objectives and creates policies to meet them.
Coordinates program operation with all collaborative units (REEI, LW, CeLT, Global Living and Learning Community, etc.).

CFP Folklorica Special Issue: Teaching Folklore

Folklorica, the peer-reviewed journal of the Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Folklore Association (an affiliate of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies), is seeking submissions for a thematic issue on “Teaching Folklore.”

Potential topics include: How is folklore taught differently at different institutions and in different contexts? What is folklore’s role in language, culture, or literature classrooms? What guidance do non-folklorists need for teaching folklore-related topics? What are the challenges and successes of folklore classes? How might one incorporate the teaching of regional folklore in general folklore classrooms? How do folklorists engage differences between teaching theory vs. teaching research skills or teaching in the classroom vs. teaching in the field? How do folklorists deal with teaching challenges related to contemporary contexts (e.g., shifting technologies in the post-COVID university, teaching research practicalities and ethics in war-torn areas, etc.)?
