Before you start

Optimizing your images to improve your website’s performance. Images must adhere to legal requirements and policies of the university.

Important:

  • Never link to the Attachment Page – Attachment pages in WordPress don’t pass our accessibility scan. You can link to the image file, but never link any media to the Attachment page.
  • JPG files should be saved with sRGB color settings. Do not save JPGs with Embedded color profiles, AdobeRGB or CMYK because this will cause an undesired color shift.

Add a Gallery to a Page or Post

  • On a page or post, place your cursor where you would like the gallery to appear.
  • Type /Gallery or click the Add Block button and select Gallery.
  • A popup will appear with several ways to insert the Gallery: drag and drop from your computer, upload the files or select ones already in the media library.
  • Select the images to be included in the gallery. The “Alt Text” field must include a description of each image. Learn about the legal requirement to include alternate text.
  • Click the “Create a New Gallery” button (in the bottom-right corner).
  • Drag and drop to reorder the images.
  • Optionally fill in the “Caption” area to display text below each image.
  • Review the Gallery Settings:
    • Determine how you want the gallery to display
    • Choose the style, aspect ratio and resolution of each image (in the block settings).
    • Choose the alignment, crop the photo or add a caption (in the block toolbar).
