2D

GDAD Capstone Course

The 2D Capstone Course in the GDAD Program at The University of Texas at Austin occurs each fall and challenges students to utilize all their new skills to create a final project. Undergraduates from the Departments of Arts and Entertainment Technologies, Computer Science, and Radio-Television-Film were assigned to one of five teams, and each team developed their own unique 2D video game.

Below are the results of the Capstone.


Final Generation

Team 1: Studio Mori

Final Generation is a 2.5D horror roguelike about survival in a world shaped by unchecked technology and human ambition. Players navigate hostile environments, corrupted enemies, and uncover the consequences of an AI-driven future through tense combat, atmospheric storytelling, and strategic decision-making. Each run reveals more about the world’s collapse and what it means to be the last generation left to fight back and discover the truth.

Fabled Feast

Team 2: Grimoire Games

Fabled Feast: A Fantasy Restaurant and Dating Simulator. Upon opening your restaurant on the edge of the Fairlands, you must come up with ways to serve magical feasts and drinks to the equally magical locals. Each day, venture into the forest and gather rare ingredients to prepare your menu. Upgrade your restaurant with your profits and delve deeper for rare ingredients, to satisfy your patrons’ increasingly specific and extravagant palettes.

CatAstro

Team 3: Minus1Labs

Dive into a retro-futuristic world as a cyborg cat and cause mischief, destroy enemies, and solve puzzles. Have fun smashing through levels, but be careful–one mistake could have you rebooted!

The Lost Shepherd

Team 4: Shear Luck Studios

In The Lost Shepherd, a mobile-first cozy narrative game, you are a nomad adrift in the world, haunted by the ongoing war that has ravaged your countryside and taken your beloved sheep with it. Will you gather the courage to face and explore the living darkness in your dreams, thus finding your will to truly live again?

In this strange and whimsical game, guide the dream projections of your sheep around open world levels and use them to help you solve puzzles throughout different areas. Collect useful items to help repair your dreamscape along the way and find out more about the Great Nightmare haunting your mind!
