Content States: Published, Unpublished & Draft Last Updated May 2025 Edits can be made to content that is “live” and then saved as a Draft, so you can work on edits without having them exposed before you are ready. There are three States for content: Unpublished/Archived, Published, and Draft. There is also Deleted. A pink color overlay is applied to all content that is not Published, including Drafts. Unpublished/Archived When you first start a piece of content it will be Unpublished. You can edit it as many times as needed before Publishing. After a page has been Published if you want to take it offline you can Archive it, which is essentially the same thing as Unpublishing it and has many of the same cautions as Deleting. Learn more on the Delete, Unpublish, Archive page. If you’re logged in you will see unpublished/archived pages in Menus. Draft The Draft state allows editors to make edits to content that is Live on the Production website, then save the edits as a Draft. You can work on edits without having them exposed before you are ready. Revisions are created with every edit. This allows you to work on content over several sessions and to prepare content in advance if you want to Publish at a specific time. A page that has an Draft will have an additional tab, the “Latest version” tab where you can compare what has changed to what is Published live on the “View” tab. A complete list of content with Drafts can be found by clicking the link “Content with Drafts List” in the Edit Content section of the Dashboard. Published It’s LIVE! Follow these steps to publish. Deleted Deleting a page is immediate and permanent. Deleting content is only recommended for content that was never live or has been unpublished in compliance with records retention policies.
