Tools For Web Content Creators

Several companies have created interfaces using AI and large language models, like the ones used by Copilot, meant specifically for web content teams but so far we’re not able to recommend any of them. Most of what these tools can do is already possible in Copilot, which has the added benefit that if you use Copilot while signed in to your UT Austin account it is secure.

  1. Go to https://copilot.microsoft.com/
  2. Use the Sign In -> Sign in with work or school account
  3. Sign in with your @austin.utexas.edu email address

Prompt Suggestions to Improve Website Content

One of the most important skills is to know how to prompt AI to give you useful results. We recommend this 29 minutes course on LinkedIn Learning: “Prompt Engineering: How to Talk to the AIs”. You may wish to use Copilot to:

  • Generate or ask it to optimize titles, headings, or meta descriptions to improve search engine optimization.
  • Ask it to rewrite text to be more concise, search engine optimized, to use correct grammar, be more inclusive or be at a specific reading level.
  • Do research on keywords statistics and find keyword cluster.
  • Produce place holder text and images for mockups and prototypes.
  • Ask it to cite sources for the results from your prompt. Then verify the results and ensure the information is not tainted by any AI hallucinations, false or misleading information.

Prompt Suggestion to Generate Alternative Text

Try the following prompt pattern:

Hi Copilot, can you please write 3 versions of possible alternate text for an image on a [College, Department or Unit name] website page that is about [title of the page] that shows an image of [describe what’s in the image] with the intent to [describe the intent]?

Example:

Hi Copilot, can you please write 3 versions of possible alternate text for an image on a College of Fine Arts website page that is about Undergraduate Admissions that shows an image of five dancers interlocking arms in colorful costumes on stage with the intent of encouraging prospective students to apply?

Learn More Specific to Web

  • LinkedIn Learning course “HTML, CSS and Generative AI: Speed Up Your Process.”
  • Nielsen Norman Group Artificial Intelligence: Glossary and Artificial Intelligence Articles & Videos

Privacy, Ethics and Other Questions

Following are a few resources considering privacy and ethics.

  • Copilot is available for the university community to log in for added privacy.
  • Visit the Open AI and Chat GPT Data controls FAQ to learn how to turn off model training to opt out of allowing them to use your data.
  • The University program, Bridging Barriers has developed “Good Systems: Ethical AI and UT Austin” with a goal to “better understand what changes new technologies will bring, predict how those changes will unfold, and mitigate the harms or unintended consequences they could cause while still leveraging the benefits AI provides.”

Other Campus Resources

Following are a few of the many entities on campus working and providing resources and information on AI. If you are aware of any that may be helpful, please let us know.

  • University Human Resources has collected some AI Resources.
  • The Center for Teaching and Learning  is developing numerous resources, articles and hosting events to support teaching and faculty, including “5 Things To Know About ChatGPT” Be sure to visit their site and search for relevant topics.
  • The Office of Academic Technology (OAT) and the Office of Academic Affairs have developed recommendations for instructors who wish to require the use of generative AI tools in their classrooms.
