Austin Pets Alive! Summer 2019 Internship
POSITION: Marketing & Development Intern
HOURS: 10-20 hours per week
COMPENSATION: This is an unpaid position to provide educational benefit.
ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
Austin Pets Alive! is a 501(c) 3 (nonprofit) organization that is focused on helping the healthy and/or treatable pets at risk of euthanasia in other shelters. Our mission is to promote and provide the resources, education and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals. Since 2008, we’ve saved the lives of over 60,000 pets and have helped Austin be the largest No Kill city in the country for over seven years. The Marketing & Development Intern will play an integral role in supporting marketing and development efforts for the shelter’s national program, American Pets Alive!.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The intern is responsible for assisting in the implementation of various aspects of fundraising, marketing and communications for American Pets Alive! under the direction of the American Pets Alive! Marketing Director and Deputy Development Director.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Tactical planning and execution for the expansion of American Pets Alive! messaging and branding to a national level
- Working closely with the Marketing Director to manage social media content, develop content strategies and analyze successful content
- Tracking, organizing, and maintaining a comprehensive catalog of American Pet Alive!
- Assisting with the management of job board and collaborating on social media strategy for this effort
- Assisting in the creation and development of branded materials for the marketing team, and overall organization
- Assisting with written content for press releases, blog posts, etc.
- Collecting and compiling data for strategic marketing efforts, campaigns and
- Assisting in research on fundraising strategies, project development and creative efforts to meet the program’s annual goals
- Assisting in developing events and/or participating in existing third-party events

Texas Standard Internship for Summer 2019
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR: We seek third year, fourth year, or grad students in journalism who are self-motivated, eager to learn, web-savvy, have a passion for news, and who love radio as a distinctive medium for introducing audiences to new and unusual ideas, voices and sounds. Previous training in news writing and audio production are a plus. An internship can be done for course credit, if needed.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO: Job duties for the internship are varied. We provide training on the basics of using recording equipment, digital editing, and posting stories online. Interns are often assigned to conduct phone interviews for news stories; assist reporters in research for stories; write news copy for on air scripts and web posts; update the website as necessary; and additional duties related to the production of a daily news show.

Spring: January-May
Summer: May-August
Fall: August-December
