Intern with WarriorWorks– a new start-up non-profit

If you have an interest in Veterans issues, being part of a start-up nonprofit, learning to hone your talents in video camerawork & editing, extending your financial education to a real world nonprofit, social networking within the Austin community and/or wanting to contribute to our world in a meaningful way… an internship with WarriorWorks may be the perfect opportunity for you.  Please see the following narrative that was written for IRS application form 1023 (for tax-exempt status):

One of the most exciting aspects of WarriorWorks’ program development is our entry into the prestigious Dell Social Innovation Challenge competition.  Please visit:http://www.dellchallenge.org/projects/warriorworks to see our page.  We have an opportunity to interact with the Dell community in numerous ways, including being able to increase public awareness of WarriorWorks and receive guidance from a Dell mentor.  At best, we win the 50,000 first prize and at worst, we have social networked with some of the most talented, innovative and successful individuals from around the country.

Some of the responsibilities students may have include:

• Organizing and helping to facilitate focus groups with various Veteran communities in the Austin area
• Researching different types of funding, including hybrid models
• Managing the financial aspects of our organization, including working up budgets and P&L statements
• Contributing to outreach efforts with a limitless number of Austin resources
• Uploading the Austin resources onto our web page (currently under construction)
• Working as a videographer and/or editor and collaborating with the WW founder to create a captivating video pitch for the Dell competition
• Learning to coordinate with a dedicated team of volunteers to promote program development of WarriorWorks

Summer Internships with the Carter Center

The Carter Center is a not-for-profit, nongovernmental organization founded in 1982 in Atlanta, Ga, by Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter in partnership with Emory University.  The Center seeks to wage peace, fight disease, and build hope in a world where people live every day under difficult, life-threatening conditions caused by war, disease, and famine. The ultimate goal is to help create a world where every man, woman, and child has the opportunity to enjoy good health and live in peace.

  • Peace Programs: The Carter Center’s peace programs strengthen freedom and democracy in nations worldwide, securing for people the political and civil rights that are the foundation of just and peaceful societies.
  • Health Programs : The Carter Center’s health programs fill vacuums in global health, helping to prevent needless suffering and build hope for millions of the world’s poorest people. The Mental Health Program works to promote awareness about mental health issues and reduce stigma and discrimination against those with mental illnesses.
