Spring Internship Opportunity with Big Brothers Big Sisters

Community Outreach Internship

Spring 2015

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

BBBS is seeking one intern for the Spring 2015 semester who can work a minimum of 12 hours per week. The position is unpaid, but may be available for course credit.

Overview:

  • Assist on-site and off-site in both administrative and outreach activities
  • Duties include data entry, phone and email correspondence with clients and community leaders, and related organizational tasks
  • Community outreach to Big Brothers Big Sisters’ clients
  • Assist in set-up and tear-down for community outreach events

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must be a recent graduate or current college student. The following qualifications are highly preferred, but not required:

  • Must be flexible and able to manage stress during unpredictable situations
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently, and efficiently manage one’s time
  • Excellent communication skills with open and respectful attitude with people from various walks of life
  • Computer literacy required, comfortable utilizing Microsoft Office programs and navigating the internet
  • Reliable transportation to and from BBBS, valid driver’s license required
  • Sincere interest in the work, programs, and mission of the BBBS organization
  • Eager to learn the operational functions of a nonprofit organization
  • Comfortable creating and delivering presentations
  • Available to work on a committed weekly schedule with a minimum of 12 hours a week for at least one semester. Ideal candidate will be available for occasional  evening/weekend work.

Explore Austin Seeks Development Spring Intern

DEVELOPMENT/COMMUNICATIONS SPRING INTERN

Explore Austin seeks qualified Development/Communications Interns to assist in raising critical funding to empower underserved youth to become leaders through mentoring and outdoor adventure. This individual plays a key role in donor and constituent experience. The Development/Communications Intern we be a key part of a team driven to help underserved youth become leaders and committed to expanding Explore Austin’s services.

Position
The position will contribute to all internal and external Communications/Development projects with stakeholders including donors, volunteers, media, and board members. Ideal candidates have taken several nonprofit development, communications or marketing classes, have strong writing skills, and are familiar with social media. This position will report to, and work closely with, the Development Assistant and the Director of Annual Giving.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in design and execution of the organization’s social media strategy
  • Coordinating research projects
  • Provide event assistance
  • Donor management/stewardship
  • Write and edit press materials
  • Distribute news releases
  • Assemble media kits/marketing packets
  • Update website
  • Office administration

  • Detail oriented
  • Organized
  • Innovative
  • Self-Motivated

Explore Austin internships are unpaid, but can be tailored to meet requirements for class credit. Interns typically work 21 – 40 hours per week in blocks of time (i.e. MWF 9-5) and occasionally work weekends. It is important for the intern to commit for the entire semester.
