Fall Development Internship with Texas Advocacy Project – Applications Due 8/7

Texas Advocacy Project is a non-profit organization providing free legal services to victims of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking throughout Texas.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Development Intern, Austin

Application Due: August 7th, 2015

Texas Advocacy Project is looking for a fall semester intern to assist the development team with preparing for fundraising events and campaigns. The intern will be assisting with major development events such as our Black & White Ball, and our end of year funding campaigns. This internship will provide opportunities to build important skills surrounding non-profit development and event planning.

Requirements:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated individual who is able to work independently and takes initiative
  • Commitment to the values of Texas Advocacy Project
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to work 10-15 hours a week

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous non-profit development experience
  • Experience with Greater Giving or other donation databases
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and content marketing 

Responsibilities:

The intern will work the Development Team to:

  • Assist in the planning and preparation of special events
  • Conduct individual donor research, including prospect research
  • Track and enter fundraising information into database
  • Draft and deliver donor communications materials
  • Assist with solicitations to diverse audiences
  • Additional tasks as assigned

This internship is unpaid, however college credit is available upon request. This internship will also provide valuable knowledge of non-profit operations, how to fundraise, and legal perspectives of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Fall Internships with WeViva

WeViva is a non-profit organization in Austin, dedicated to providing accessible and affordable fitness and nutrition classes to people in low-income communities. WeViva is a Hybrid of English and Spanish–We (community, friends, co-workers) and Viva (Spanish for live or life).  Our name symbolizes our commitment to bringing life, wellness, and activity to the communities we serve.

WeViva is currently seeking interns in the following areas: Programs, Development, Nutrition, and Graphic Design. Interns will get exposure to: social marketing tools, grant searching and writing, basic office tasks, attending health fairs, farmer’s markets, events related to health/fitness/nutrition.

Interns should meet the following qualifications:

  • Interest in helping low-income populations
  • Interest in health, wellness, nutrition, fitness
  • Must have own computer and regular internet access
  • Ability to work from home
  • Ability to drive to locations that are hosting the fitness and nutrition classes
  • An understanding of a small start-up non-profit environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus

Total time/week varies depending on internship role. Available internship credit hours through university program; intern required to set up credit hours and WeViva will complete any necessary paperwork.

Stipend is available.

Sustainability Internship with Capital Area Food Bank

The Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, the largest hunger relief organization in Central Texas, is currently seeking a Sustainability Intern. The Sustainability Intern will support the Food Bank Operations team in researching and developing a plan to improve sustainability practices and waste diversion in our new facility, which will be opening in 2016. This person will gain valuable experience in sustainable practices, waste diversion, food warehouse operations, community outreach, analyzing data, and working in a diverse non-profit environment.

Pay Rate: Unpaid / Available for academic credit

Time Commitment: Minimum 10 hours/week

Responsibilities:

  • Compile and analyze data on current material waste produced by our facility to better understand where improvements may be made.
  • Assess current processes in place for waste diversion, recycling, and composting.
  • Contact local businesses and resources to gather information about best practices in waste diversion and sustainability.
  • Research options for composting and recycling in the new facility and provide recommendations.
  • Develop a sustainability volunteer program for possible implementation in 2016.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as an Undergraduate or Graduate student.
  • Must have a general interest in sustainable practices, waste diversion, composting, and recycling.
  • Supply Chain Management majors preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Ability to work with multiple departments and in diverse environments.
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision and collaboratively in a group.

Additional Requirements With or Without Reasonable Accommodation:

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry up to 25 lbs., perceive depth, and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Conditions may include working outside in inclement weather, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, working closely with others, working alone and traveling by company vehicle.
  • Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include computer and related equipment, computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, and automobile.
