Summer Internships with Dress for Success

 

The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

Dress for Success Austin is seeking bright, dynamic, motivated interns to join our growing team of community helpers and local do-gooders in the Summer of 2018.

Interning with Dress for Success Austin gives students an opportunity to network with contacts from over 100+ different nonprofit and government organizations in the Austin area. Through project management, event planning, client relations, data analysis and much more, our interns gain the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the ins-and-outs of the nonprofit world.

Summer internships will take place June 4 – August 13. All internship opportunities are unpaid. Credit is not required but we can provide documentation if needed.

Merchandising and Inventory Management Intern

Reporting directly to our Inventory Manager, the Merchandising and Inventory Management Intern will be responsible for keeping our organization’s inventory organized and stocked, as well as sorting donations and training volunteers on sorting processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage influx of donations and sort, purge, merchandize, and organize inventory at the Dress for Success Austin boutique
  • Train volunteers on inventory management
  • Manage community groups with volunteer tasks
  • Create more efficient ways of managing inventory
  • Update documents relating to inventory management including inventory lists and instructions for purging days
  • Notify staff when inventory is needed

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be a current student seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree
  • Ability to work a minimum of 9 hours per week
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook as well as strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Detailed planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of appropriate attire for interviews and employment
  • Knowledge and interest in fashion labels and consignment/thrift store merchandise
  • Positive, proactive and ability to exercise great judgment and common sense
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
  • Creative problem-solver
  • Previous work experience in nonprofits a plus

Client Programs Assistant Intern

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Client Programs Intern will assist with the management of all pre- and post- employment programs that Dress for Success Austin offers to clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Job Searching Program Coordinator to organize and facilitate the program prior to, during and after each session and throughout the cohort of classes
  • Assist with preparation of each class session including arranging the room for the most conducive learning environment
  • Assist clients during the classes by being present to answer questions, help with the computers and other duties as assigned
  • After each class session, input demographic into a database
  • Keep track of each client’s file to insure all required data is complete and accurate
  • As needed, communicate with various entities in the community to assist with arranging speakers, mentors, supplies, and educational materials as needed
  • As the close of each cohort of classes, assist with writing and analyzing reports
  • Be available to assist with other Dress for Success Austin programs as needed

Client Services Intern

Reporting directly to the Front Office Manager, the Client Services Intern will assist with client education, daily client intake, and management. They will also assist with client data and data analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide front office continuity for clients
  • Greet clients and assist them with paperwork
  • Pair clients with a volunteer image consultant or volunteer career center advocate
  • Educate clients about additional Dress for Success Austin programs and services
  • Answer phones and field public inquiries
  • Build relationships with referral agencies and communicate our policies and procedures to caseworkers
  • Conduct follow-up calls to clients and determine if/what additional services are needed
  • Assist with client data analysis

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be a current student seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree
  • Ability to work a minimum of 9 hours per week
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook as well as strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license

Social Media Intern

Reporting directly to the Community Outreach Coordinator, the Social Media Intern will assist with general content creation for all official Dress for Success Austin social media accounts.

Responsibilities:

  • Create unique + engaging social media content
  • Work with the Community Outreach Coordinator to implement long-term + short-term media campaigns
  • Monitor analytics from running social posts to identify viable ideas
  • Create and design shareable content for upcoming events
  • Find new, scalable ways to grow social media following and increase engagement
  • Attend occasional community events to represent Dress for Success Austin

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be a current student seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree
  • Ability to work a minimum of 9 hours per week
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook as well as strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite Applications including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro
  • Photography experience required
  • Passion for social media and branded content creation
  • Graphic design experience a plus
  • Experience creating ads through VideoShop, Facebook, Instagram
  • Positive, proactive and able to always exercise great judgment and common sense

Career Center Intern

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Career Center intern will manage the resources in the career center, train volunteers on all resources available, and follow-up with clients regarding additional program offerings.

Responsibilities:

  • Update resources in career center
  • Manage workflow of volunteers and clients for appointments
  • Train volunteers on career center duties
  • Serve as backup career center consultant in lieu of absent volunteers or along with present volunteers

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be a current student seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree
  • Ability to work a minimum of 9 hours per week
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook as well as strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Detailed planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Positive, proactive and ability to exercise great judgment and common sense
  • Proficient in G Suite
  • Sensitivity to diverse client backgrounds

Summer Internship with Miracle Foundation

Since our founding on Mother’s Day in 2000, the Miracle Foundation has taken a stand for orphaned children. Our “Child First” approach is multi-faceted, collaborative and community-based:

  • 80% of children living in institutions have a living relative. We make every effort to reunite these children with their birth family, if possible
  • For abandoned children without family — our measurable, systematic method ensures that children are loved, educated, healthy and safe until they transition to a permanent family.

  • We actively collaborate with governments, other non-profits and local family-strengthening organizations to transform systems and give children a voice.

Our interns gain an inside opportunity to learn how to run a nonprofit that makes an impact for the world’s orphaned children. • Our Office Administration Intern will work with our Office Manager to complete various administrative tasks, create process documents, track departmental progress, and more.

Responsibilities vary, but are generally in one of the following areas: Office Administration, Development, Programs, and Finance. We do our best to find work that suits your interests and develops your expertise.

• Our Development Intern will work with our Development Associate to plan events, analyze fundraising data, develop fundraising campaigns, research funding prospects, and more.

• Our Programs Intern will work with our Director of Global Programs and Program Coordinator to input and analyze data, create and improve programs, and more.

• Our Finance Intern will work with our Chief Financial Officer to create financial statements, track our expenses, and more.

Requirements: We offer both formal (for class credit) and informal internships. Interns are expected to donate at least 10 hours/week of their time and exemplify the following qualities:

•Global perspective, belief in our mission, and a passion for making a difference

•Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

•High level of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, andPowerPoint

•Organized and detail-oriented, with effective time-management skills

•Strong work ethic, the ability to follow through, and a willingness to do whatneeds to be done, no matter how large or small

•Dependable, self-motivated, and conscientious

•Outgoing and enthusiastic, with a positive attitude

•Professional, prompt, and dresses appropriately

•Must be 18 or older.

EventSpace Internships

The EventSpace team is growing, and we’re looking for two talented, passionate, go-getting interns to join our team this summer!

No fetching coffee here, this is real work in the real world. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the fast-paced world of tech start-ups with an event management twist.

We are seeking tech savvy interns to join our team, live our brand and take our digital marketing to a new level, though in reality, the number one quality we seek is an upbeat, positive attitude and a determination to finish the job and get it done right. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about every aspect of the event industry.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Write and develop compelling stories, releases and social content
  • Create and manage media outreach and relationships
  • Attend, monitor, and recap local events and initiatives
  • Plan events and assist with logistical support
  • Engage and identify with notable community and social influencers
  • Work in an environment that encourages curiosity, diversity and innovation

You will be supporting the Creative Marketing Director with daily activities including, but not limited to:

  • Assisting to gather related content
  • Photography/ editing/ Generating layouts for digital media
  • Assist with social media platforms
  • Responsible for updating content on website
  • Assisting on special projects as needed // including all aspects of event planning

REQUIREMENTS:

Undergraduate students (communications, public relations, marketing, event management or related major preferred)

Availability for May

Availability to work a minimum of 10 hours per week (5hrs in a coworking space/ 5hrs on your own)
