Internship for Community Meal Facilitators: 

Front line service management opportunities in an underserved community.  Interns will navigate the complexities of designing, building, and managing an ongoing weekly meal service for homeless and/or financially challenged individuals and families. Description:

Resource Recovery is a department within UT Facilities Services which encompasses both Zero Waste and Surplus Properties. Resource Recovery is tasked with improving sustainability at UT, specifically with regards to reaching our 2020 Zero Waste goal to divert 90% of all materials from the landfill.

We are looking for a Reuse Store Team Member. This position will be based at the Pickle Research Campus (10100 Burnet Road), accessible by CapMetro bus (wifi, free with UT ID). This project supports Surplus Property in selling no longer used materials to the general public through a retail store. Students lead preparation of sales items for the store as well as store operation. We are excited to start weekly store operations beginning in February – anticipated to be Thursdays, 3—7pm. Applicants are not required to be available at those times, but it is preferred.

Additionally, you would be a member of Resource Recovery’s student internship program. All of our student interns meet weekly as a team to share and learn and create synergy across our work. Team Members are not expected to have any sustainability background – only interest in learning!

Responsibilities and learning objectives of the Reuse Store Team Member include but are not limited to:

  • Organization and attention to detail to prepare for store sales events
  • Communication and marketing postings to encourage store attendance
  • Professional customer-service that represents UT and the department well
  • Data collection and analysis

Qualifications:

  • Interest in retail sales, design, or business management preferred
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and represent the department well when communicating with faculty and staff
  • Capacity to work well with a team as well as independently
  • Self-starter who is detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable
  • Ability to work both independently and accurately with little supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to transport to Pickle Research Campus in north central Austin

Work Days and Times:

  • 2018 Spring semester
  • 10 hours per week, set weekly schedule, recurring meeting times established by team.

CareBOX Program Internships Spring 2018

Description

CareBOX Program is an Austin based nonprofit providing free care supplies to cancer patients to help prevent malnutrition, infections, and injuries from falls. Our organization is comprised of a team of 4 women acting as Executive Director, Development Director, Program Coordination and Program Assistant. We rely significantly on volunteers and interns to help us achieve our mission and grow our program to serve an increasing number of Central Texas cancer patients in need. Internship positions offer a great learning opportunity in a startup nonprofit environment and are critical to aid in the development & success of the CareBOX Program.

Responsibilities

As a startup non-profit, we appreciate the entrepreneurial spirit & excellent candidates must be self-starters. Interns with the CareBOX Program will have their own specific projects, and will work together, with volunteers & staff alike, to help keep the organization moving in the right direction. All internship positions require flexibility and a willingness to help across the nonprofit, perhaps sometimes outside of designated rolls. We currently have three internship opportunities open:

1. Program/Operations Intern : A wide variety of projects are available, including but not limited to; receiving inventory, packing patient supplies, patient onboarding and communication, participating in third party community events and community research projects.

2. Development Intern : This role will include assisting the Development Director in planning and executing in-house and community engagement opportunities, donor communication and cultivation, and utilizing/updating a donor management system.

3. Social Media/Marketing : Interns in this area will work with all members of the team to ensure that consistent and ongoing outreach is happening to key CareBOX Program stakeholders (e.g. donors, patients) as well as leveraging ways to increase awareness and engagement among new community members.

Requirements

Applicants must be either currently working towards a degree or have recently completed a Bachelor’s degree. We are looking for interns who are passionate, dedicated, hardworking, creative and entrepreneurial minded. Being a detail-oriented, self-starter is a must. CareBOX Program is a fast paced environment with a multitude of opportunities to learn and master a wide range of transferable skills. A candidate who is able to commit 15-20hrs per week is preferred.
