Intern Opening: Legislative Intern
Internship Period: January 2013- May 2013
Last day to apply: Jan 10, 2013
The Intern will work with WDP to win better protections for Texas construction workers through our Build A Better Texas Campaign. The Intern will be coordinating legislative visits for our Day of the Fallen: We Build Texas! day of action, where hundreds of construction workers and community allies from across the state will march on the capitol to remind legislators that We Build Texas! and that Texas construction workers deserve good, safe jobs! The Intern will learn important skills in community organizing, coalition building, policy advocacy, and non-profit administration.
Requirements:
3.0 GPA
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Computer literate: Microsoft Office, Internet, and e-mail
Ability to work independently
Commitment to social justice
Able to work 10 to 15 hours a week including occasional nights and weekends.
Responsibilities: Intern will work with WDP to:
Assist with outreach to and developing relationships with key strategic allies state level policy campaigns.
Participate in and provide support for meetings with state policy makers.
Coordinate visits to legislators to educate them about construction working conditions on our day of action.
Compensation:
Life-long experience and skills
Stipend of $100 a month

The Intern will learn important skills in community organizing, coalition building, policy advocacy, non-profit administration, and event planning.
