Refugee Services of Texas is a refugee resettlement agency providing quality services to refugees and other displaced populations joining families or starting new lives in Texas. They are currently recruiting for a number of internship positions.
Grant Writing and Research
The grant writing and research intern would be in charge of finding and applying for grants for the organization. They will be under the supervision of our Area Director.
Fundraising/Communications
RST is looking into a few different fundraising opportunities for the upcoming year, and this position would be the primary coordinator of these events. This intern would work closely with both our Area Director and volunteer coordinator to help arrange the logistics of these fundraisers. The intern will also be responsible for developing relationships throughout the community with business, organizations, foundations, and individuals that would be possible sources of funding.
Non-profit Administration
There is a lot of background work that helps an organization run smoothly! This intern will be working with logistical tasks such as donation organization. This is a flexible position that the intern can form to provide assistance in any area where they see work is needed.
Employment
Our employment program helps refugees build their resumes, apply for jobs, and trains them in American job etiquette. The intern will help with in-takes to the program, filling out applications for clients, and take on one or two case managements for themselves. They will also work on a project to create vocabulary booklets for the different jobs that our clients are usually placed in.
Victims of Trafficking
Case Worker Intern (required social work background)
The Victims of trafficking program case worker intern would be responsible in assisting VOTs through intensive case management, crisis intervention, financial and housing support, and throughout the legal process of obtaining a T-visa/Continued Presence. Case management services include assistance with accessing public benefits such as food stamps, Medicaid and housing, emotional support, referrals for services such as English as a Second Language courses and health programs, and other community resources as needed on a case by case basis, such as shelters and community mental health resources. The intern will also have the opportunity to co-facilitate a psychoeducational and women empowerment group with women and children. The intern would assist with the Capital Area food pantry program located in our offices. Other projects may be available depending on the internʼs interest and the agencyʼs available workload. The case worker intern would be required to have some knowledge of victims of human trafficking, and the ability to work with multi-ethnic populations, and speak Spanish. Required background check. Required 20 to 40 hrs of availability.
Community Outreach
The community outreach intern would assist in coordinating trainings and workshops to increase awareness about human trafficking and to educate about the efforts of the Central Texas Coalition
Against Human Trafficking to local social service agencies, hospitals, and community groups. This intern position would assist the VOT volunteer coordinator in recruiting and volunteer orientations. The community outreach intern would collaborate with the VOT donations coordinator on special projects and recruiting local partners for donations. Other projects may be available depending on the internʼs interest and the agencyʼs available workload. Required Background check. Required 20 to 40 hrs of availability.
