Undergraduate Outreach and Research Intern
Spring 2014
The Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life (www.annettestrauss.org), an organized research unit at The University of Texas at Austin, seeks an unpaid 10-15 hr./week undergraduate outreach and research intern. The Annette Strauss Institute aims to understand and overcome the obstacles to civic engagement through research, education, training, and youth engagement. The intern will help to support the Institute’s outreach programming including marketing assistance, aiding with events and trainings, and other administrative support.
Position Available: Undergraduate Outreach and Research Intern with the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life
Hours/week: 10-15 hrs./week
Period of Appointment: January 13, 2014- May 2, 2014 with the possibility of continuation through Fall 2014
Location: CMA 7.146
Duties:
- Program/Educational Outreach Coordination. Support the Institute’s outreach initiatives including K-12 Outreach, Institute communication, and Speak Up! Speak Out!;
- Database Management. Expand and maintain contacts database;
- Administrative Assistance. Travel planning, reporting, and administration.
- Marketing and Communication. Website management and updates. Create marketing lists for the Texas Civic Health Index, Speak Up! Speak Out!, professional development, teacher partnerships, and advertising. Support with drafting and producing social media content.
- Event Planning. Assist with conference planning and event preparation; and
- Projects and Research. Assist the Director, staff, and graduate research assistant(s), on various projects and/or research of the Institute, as needed and directed.
Qualifications:
Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, including writing to deadline and for a variety of audiences.
An articulated belief in the Strauss Institute mission and an interest in civic life.
Applicants must be personable, well-organized, resourceful and persistent.
Previous work in an educational, political, or non-profit setting is a plus.
Compensation: This position is unpaid but the selected student can register to take this internship for course credit, if permissible by your degree program.
