Position Description:
The Sustainable Food Center‘s Grow Local is looking for an individual passionate about achieving social equality in a local and sustainable food system. The Spread the Harvest Bilingual Outreach Intern will reach out to Latino/a participants to enhance their engagement with the Spread the Harvest program, and connect them with the necessary tools to grow their own food. The intern will cultivate personal relationships with participants via phone calls and in-person meetings for initial orientations and quarterly surveys. The intern will also assist GL staff in developing an evaluation system to gauge the effectiveness of the Spread the Harvest program in the broader Austin community. Key Responsibilities:
- Call and meet with Spanish-speaking and phone-only participants with orientation information or to perform quarterly surveys
- Assist Grow Local Teaching Garden Coordinator with other duties related to Spread the Harvest, such as preparing for biannual Resource Give-Away Days
- Participate in periodic check-in meetings with SFC Grow Local Teaching Garden Coordinator
- Assist other Grow Local staff with planning and preparation for other programs associated with Spread the Harvest
Qualifications:
- Bilingual English/Spanish mandatory
- Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Basic understanding and passion for the mission of the Sustainable Food Center.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Dedicated team player who is culturally sensitive
- Dynamic personality with good sense of humor and appreciation for healthy, local food.
