Mexic-Arte museum was founded on 1983 with one bold vision in mind: to educate and promote traditional and contemporary Latino art throughout the entire state of Texas.
Mexic-Arte Museum is looking for an intern to assist in the Education Department. Students should expect to make a commitment of about 10-20 hours per week. This opportunity is ideal for a student looking to fulfill a university internship requirement. This internship is unpaid, but successful completion of the internship may result in the possibility of applying for future employment as positions becomes available. Applicants must be able to pass a background check.
The schedule will be flexible. Shifts are generally scheduled between 9am and 6pm Monday-Friday. Shift times may vary week to week and there may be opportunities for weekend shifts. Shifts will last 4-6 hours with a lunch break. The intern will know their shift schedule 1-2 weeks beforehand and can request certain days/times that work with their schedule.
The education intern will assist with the coordination of youth and adult programs. Other opportunities include: touring youth groups through exhibitions, developing curriculum, preparing for and facilitating creative projects, assisting with education outreach, and helping with program evaluation.
Qualifications:
Excellent writing skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Must provide own transportation to and from Mexic-Arte Museum in downtown Austin
Bachelor’s Degree (or currently enrolled in a college or university)
Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Experience/ strong interest in Art History, Museum Education, or Latin American Studies
Responsibilities Include:
General office assistance such as copying and filing
Assist with grant reporting that is reviewed by the City of Austin, which includes entering client registrations, sign-in sheets , data and surveys into a database
Organize and maintain art materials; inventory of supplies such as t-shirts and ink
Assist with special museum events such as Make and Take/Family Day and scheduled group tours
Assist with social media marketing
