About the Position:
The Communications Apprentice must possess a strong knowledge of and passion for the digital media landscape. The Apprentice will be responsible for maintaining Urban Roots’ website, blog, and for all online outreach using Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms. This person will create images for social media and small-scale collateral pieces using Canva or other design software. The Apprentice chosen for this position must be a self-starter who possesses the skills and the drive to expand Urban Roots’ online presence and build our online community. The Apprentice must be a team player who is technologically savvy with experience managing Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts and who possesses strong communication skills, enthusiasm for sustainable agriculture, youth development, and building community through local food. Knowledge of WordPress is highly recommended. Previous social media, marketing, public relations, and/or communications experience preferred.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Social Media
o Compose and Schedule all Event- Based Tweets and Facebook posts
o Expand relationships with Social Media followers by engaging in conversations
o Enhance support relationships by engaging/promoting them on twitter
o Build out Instagram presence
o Create any images/ collateral for social media
• Communications
o Post 1 blog post every two weeks
o Assist with the drafting E-newsletter articles
o Organize photo library
o Create any images/ collateral for communications
• Website
o Regularly update website with new events
o Regularly update website sponsor page
• Design
o Create small- scale design pieces for Urban Roots using Canva or other design software
Commitment:
15-20 hours per week, more hours preferred. Flexible scheduling.
Compensation:
This a part-time volunteer position. Farm Apprentices will receive training and work experience. Apprentices will also receive a half share in our Spring 2015. We can also work with you to help you earn class credit if applicable.
