Dell Medical School Work Study Student Assistant Position Description
The Dell Medical School is seeking a student assistant to join the development team. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about philanthropy, donor relations, and healthcare in a high-profile, dynamic, and energetic setting.
Term:
-Spring 2015 semester, with potential for a summer 2015 and fall 2015 appointment. (Anticipated start date: February 23, 2015)
-Availability for 10-12 hours, Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm.
Reports To: Development Associate
Duties:
-Assist the Development Associate with donor stewardship projects including gift processing, the writing/distribution of donor acknowledgment letters, mailings, and writing donor profiles.
-Perform various clerical duties such as filing, copying, running errands, answering the telephone, and greeting visitors.
-Prepare electronic and hard copy informational packets for donors.
-Engage in computer/library research to perform benchmarking and other special projects. Perform data entry using Microsoft Excel and University databases.
-Assist the development team with planning and executing special events.
-Organize pre- and post- travel documentation for gift officers.
-Additional duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications:
-Professional demeanor with excellent oral and written communication.
-Ability to communicate and interact positively and effectively with current/prospective donors, staff, and faculty.
-Ability and commitment to successfully manage confidential records, both paper and electronic.
-Ability to work independently and take initiative in suggesting and assisting with projects that contribute to improving operations and procedures.
-Possess sound judgment, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
-Familiarity with word processing, computer data entry, filing, and telephone reception.
-Computer literate. Familiarity with Microsoft Office software such as Excel and Word. Experience with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat Pro preferred.
-Responsible and dependable, managing work time effectively and completing projects with accuracy.
-Interest in healthcare, philanthropy, donor relations, and communications.
