Andy Roddick Foundation Seeks Summer Program Mentors

The Summer Program Mentor is an essential position in the Andy Roddick Foundation’s Summer Learning Program at Pecan Springs Early College Prep Elementary. Program Mentors are responsible for the routine supervision, health, and safety of an assigned group of elementary students. Enthusiastic, caring Program Mentors are an integral part of our program and the primary caregivers of the children enrolled. As role models, Program Mentors are selected based on experience, maturity, enthusiasm, creativity, and attitude. Program Mentors actively assist in preparing for and implementing of weekly activities. They foster positive relationships with children, families, and other staff while exemplifying the Foundation’s goals and values.

Essential Functions

  • Direct, supervise, and organize up to 12 elementary students in a group within activities and throughout the program in order to meet intended outcomes
  • Ensure students are properly supervised at all times, including while on site and field trips
  • Assist in the teaching of various educational and recreational activities under direction of Lead Instructor, Instructors, or Coaches
  • Be actively involved with students during program activities, including physical activity (e.g., running, jumping, etc.)
  • Apply basic child development principles through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, and involvement and empowerment of children
  • Serve as a positive role model for all students
  • Build positive, mentoring relationships with students
  • Manage student behavior, as needed
  • Ensure that school and program rules are observed
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment for students
  • Maintain positive staff, family, and community relationships
  • Actively participate in staff trainings and meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Some college course work completed in education or related field
  • Experience working with elementary-age students required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, a cooperative attitude, and the ability to work with and understand the needs of children
  • Ability to teach and lead various educational and recreational activities
  • Must be able to pass criminal history background check, Sex Offender Registry Check, and references
  • Must be available for all staff training, including First Aid/CPR, from June 8-12
  • Must be available to work Monday-Friday 8am-4pm from June 15-July 24
  • Must be available to work July 27-29 for program wrap-up activities

Austin EcoNetwork Seeking Editorial Intern

Join the Austin EcoNetwork team as an editorial intern! This will not be a busywork kind of internship. AEN’s editorial intern will have the opportunity to jump right into the action, writing blogs and assisting in the production of the EcoNews. Although this is an unpaid position, the intern will have the opportunity to accrue bylines, writing clips, and a great deal of experience. The hours are flexible and enthusiasm is a must.

Responsibilities will include:

Assisting in the production of the weekly EcoNews
Writing blogs about local environmental issues and events
Helping to maintain the EcoNetwork’s monthly event calendar

Who should apply:

Journalism/English majors currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
Past experience interning at other publications or working for a school newspaper is a plus

Dell Medical School Hiring Student Assistants – Apply by 2/18

Dell Medical School Work Study Student Assistant Position Description

The Dell Medical School is seeking a student assistant to join the development team. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about philanthropy, donor relations, and healthcare in a high-profile, dynamic, and energetic setting.

Term:
-Spring 2015 semester, with potential for a summer 2015 and fall 2015 appointment. (Anticipated start date: February 23, 2015)
-Availability for 10-12 hours, Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm.

Reports To: Development Associate

Duties:
-Assist the Development Associate with donor stewardship projects including gift processing, the writing/distribution of donor acknowledgment letters, mailings, and writing donor profiles.
-Perform various clerical duties such as filing, copying, running errands, answering the telephone, and greeting visitors.
-Prepare electronic and hard copy informational packets for donors.
-Engage in computer/library research to perform benchmarking and other special projects. Perform data entry using Microsoft Excel and University databases.
-Assist the development team with planning and executing special events.
-Organize pre- and post- travel documentation for gift officers.
-Additional duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:
-Professional demeanor with excellent oral and written communication.
-Ability to communicate and interact positively and effectively with current/prospective donors, staff, and faculty.
-Ability and commitment to successfully manage confidential records, both paper and electronic.
-Ability to work independently and take initiative in suggesting and assisting with projects that contribute to improving operations and procedures.
-Possess sound judgment, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
-Familiarity with word processing, computer data entry, filing, and telephone reception.
-Computer literate. Familiarity with Microsoft Office software such as Excel and Word. Experience with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat Pro preferred.
-Responsible and dependable, managing work time effectively and completing projects with accuracy.
-Interest in healthcare, philanthropy, donor relations, and communications.
