WeViva (www.weviva.org) is a non-profit organization in Austin, with a mission to provide accessible and affordable fitness and nutrition classes to people in low-income communities. We target adults (mainly Hispanic women) and bring all classes on-site and completely free to her. WeViva is seeking interns to help with the following tasks:
1) Program Management Tasks:
Attend all fitness and nutrition classes at various partner organizations in Austin. Classes are in apartments, community centers, and schools. Maintain attendance sheets and waivers as well as create reports on participation rates. Assist with childcare if deemed necessary.
Times for this internship are mainly in the evening hours (between 6-8pm). Classes are primarily in East and South Austin, and occasionally in North Austin.
2) WeViva General Operations Tasks:
Help the Executive Director with research, grant writing, participation database, communications outlets and avenues. Times are mainly 10a-5pm
All interns would also get exposure to: social marketing tools, grant searching and writing, basic office tasks, attending health fairs, farmers markets, events related to health/fitness/nutrition.
The intern needs to have the following qualifications:
- Interest in helping low-income populations
- Interest in health, wellness, nutrition, fitness
- Must have own computer and regular internet access
- Ability to work from home
- Ability to drive to locations that are hosting the fitness and nutrition classes.
- An understanding of a small start-up non-profit environment
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
Total time/week varies depending on internship role. Available internship credit hours through university program; intern required to setup credit hours and WeViva will complete any necessary paperwork.
Stipend is available for travel.
