Communities In Schools at Dobie Middle School is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic intern with a commitment to social justice and an interest in working with youth! This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working in a high-needs urban school with teachers, administrators, students, and a diverse group of service providers.
About CIS: We believe that children cannot learn at their full potential when they are in crisis or face significant non-academic needs. Communities In Schools provides support by bringing resources and relationships to school campuses — surrounding students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. We serve students in high-need schools across Central Texas, providing each student individualized supports based on their needs and interests.
About this internship: This internship is based at Dobie Middle School, a high-needs school in Northeast Austin. You will have the opportunity to mentor a diverse population of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders academically and socially, providing support, guidance, and tutoring. This position will be supervised by a licensed master social worker in a challenging but fun and fast-paced learning environment with many opportunities for growth and creativity. You must be ready to learn, flexible, and comfortable working as part of a team. Experience working with youth in school settings is preferred. Spanish language skills are a plus but not required. This position requires a 10-15 hour per week commitment. Hours are flexible but must be scheduled within the school day (7:45am-3:30pm).
How to apply: To apply, send a resume and cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position, any relevant experience or skills, and what you would be excited to learn from an internship with CIS at Dobie Middle School. Send materials to Erin Willig at ewillig@ciscentraltexas.org by August 17, 2015. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, so applying early is encouraged!
