The Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, the largest hunger relief organization in Central Texas, is currently seeking a Sustainability Intern. The Sustainability Intern will support the Food Bank Operations team in researching and developing a plan to improve sustainability practices and waste diversion in our new facility, which will be opening in 2016. This person will gain valuable experience in sustainable practices, waste diversion, food warehouse operations, community outreach, analyzing data, and working in a diverse non-profit environment.
Pay Rate: Unpaid / Available for academic credit
Time Commitment: Minimum 10 hours/week
Responsibilities:
- Compile and analyze data on current material waste produced by our facility to better understand where improvements may be made.
- Assess current processes in place for waste diversion, recycling, and composting.
- Contact local businesses and resources to gather information about best practices in waste diversion and sustainability.
- Research options for composting and recycling in the new facility and provide recommendations.
- Develop a sustainability volunteer program for possible implementation in 2016.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled as an Undergraduate or Graduate student.
- Must have a general interest in sustainable practices, waste diversion, composting, and recycling.
- Supply Chain Management majors preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Ability to work with multiple departments and in diverse environments.
- Ability to work both independently with little supervision and collaboratively in a group.
