Development Internship with Shoal Creek Conservancy

The Shoal Creek Conservancy (www.shoalcreekconservancy.org) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2013 with the mission of restoring, protecting and enhancing the ecological, social and cultural vibrancy of Shoal Creek for the people of Austin, Texas by engaging the public and partnering with the community. We seek to achieve this mission through activities that maintain and improve the Shoal Creek trail and greenway; enhance the public’s enjoyment of the Creek; and restore the watershed. Shoal Creek is the city’s oldest trail and extends for approximately four miles through the heart of Austin, Texas.

Description: Shoal Creek Conservancy seeks an extremely organized, strong writer that is interested in learning more about nonprofit fundraising and development. This person would work closely with the Development and Programs Associate and Executive Director to assist with fundraising and other tasks. The position is available to undergraduate or graduate students as well as recent graduates.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with grant proposal submission
  • Assist with research and creation of database for new funding prospects, including foundation, corporate and government grant programs
  • Assist with planning of major fundraising events
  • Work with other staff to develop materials to use for fundraising effort and pursue strategies to grow the membership of the Conservancy
  • Assist with day-to-day administrative tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
    • Experience with nonprofit development work, grant writing a plus, but not necessary
    • Desire to learn about nonprofit fundraising and management
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Highly organized and able to manage multiple ongoing projects
    • Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office products

 

  • Enthusiasm for the Conservancy’s mission

Start Date:    Position open until filled, requires a minimum semester/summer commitment

Hours:        At least 15 hours a week, preferably two to three times a week in the office

Stipend:     $500 per semester/summer

Funding for Undergraduate Research

unding for UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS is available!

Application Deadline: Thursday, September 17, 2015.
Information session:  Thursday, September 10, 2015, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in FAC 328

The Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) program, sponsored by the Office of the VP for Research, provides support for specific scholarly research projects conducted by full-time UT undergraduate students enrolled in any department. These fellowships (up to $1,000) are intended to cover costs associated with independent research projects proposed and written by student applicants and undertaken with the supervision of a university tenured or tenure-track faculty member, lecturer, senior lecturer or full-time research scientist/engineer. Supervisor must be able to serve as Principal Investigator if IACUC, IBC or IRB approvals are needed.  Other restrictions apply.

Colorado River Alliance Volunteer Open House

Join the Colorado River Alliance at the Redbud Center and learn all about the volunteer and internship opportunities we have to offer! We need folks like you to help us run our science education programs, participate in events such as gardening days or running an educational booth.

The Alliance hosts field trips for 3rd-5th grade students at LCRA’s outdoor facility. We need passionate people to inspire students to protect and conserve our water resources! Students and teachers love the free, educational program, and our volunteer docents love making an impact in the community. Field trips are hosted Tuesday-Friday from 9am-2pm. Come find out how to get involved!

PLUS! This is a great opportunity to learn more about the source of Austin’s drinking water!

Snacks and beverages will be provided — we take care of our docents!
