Water to Thrive is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to the mission of bringing clean, safe water to communities in rural Africa. Since its founding in 2008, more than 650 wells have been built, providing the gift of clean water to more than 350,000 people in East Africa.
Water To Thrive (W2T) is looking for energetic, highly motivated interns to work in our in Austin, Texas office.
Previous interns have researched grant development, provided social media support, developed marketing materials, worked on promotional strategies, and participated in increasing community engagement. We are seeking interns who will combine a commitment to creating positive change with their own skill set and ideas for projects and participation.
Areas where interns can contribute include technology and engineering (website development and review, water project engineering design specifications, data entry and analysis), program management (assisting with current project management and communication, assisting with development of new water projects), and fundraising development (philanthropy and fundraising, grant proposals). In other words, interested candidates should be prepared to discuss what they would like to achieve during their time with the organization.
ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Past interns have come to Water to Thrive from various majors, including communication, education, engineering, marketing, and public relations. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their educational background and skill set in terms of how they can benefit the mission of Water to Thrive, and to present a concept and goal for a task or tasks they would like to accomplish during the internship.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
(for previous internships – will be redeveloped to suit the skills and goals of any particular person)
- Update social media channels
- Find new grants – apply and manage these grants
- Assist with compiling outreach contact lists & reach out to potential supporters
- Help organize donor information and profiles
- Research creative and innovative ideas to promote W2T and our initiatives
- Participate in event planning and development
- Work across departments to assist as needed
The ideal candidate will:
- Be a self-starter who is able to take responsibility for projects and work independently
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Be detail-oriented, a problem solver, an efficient multi-tasker and extremely organized
- Be devoted to and believe in the vision and mission of W2T
- Have a strong knowledge of computer and word processing applications
- Have a working knowledge of using social media tools for business
- Have a working knowledge of emerging technology platforms
- Have an assertive, can-do attitude and be able to work independently as well as be a team player
- Flexibility in schedule
- Access to a laptop computer and a smartphone device
