A 501(c)3 dedicated to protecting and enhancing the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake. We work in cooperation with the Austin Parks and Recreation Department to close the gap between what the City provides and what the Trail deserves.
DESCRIPTION
This internship will be multifaceted, and the intern will have the opportunity to work in all departments of The Trail Foundation (TTF). We are seeking an innovative, creative, analytical and strategic thinker, who is passionate about supporting and celebrating the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail. The Trail Foundation is run by a small team, which allows this intern to gain hands-on experience and have direct one-on-one learning experiences with all department heads. The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic and thrive in a fast paced setting that is constantly evolving. This person should demonstrate a high level of integrity and willingness to keep information confidential. This role will report to the Development Director and the Project and Creative Director.
The ideal intern must be able to commit to a full year with the option for a second year renewal.
LOCATION
The office is located in the Hyde Park, Austin, TX, free parking available and close to UT bus line.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- A sophomore or junior is preferred
- Previous internship experience a plus
- Familiarity with the Trail
The ideal candidate will:
- Provide support to Development Director, Project and Creative Director, Office Manager and Executive Director

- Have proficiency in or willingness to learn: Microsoft Office, Google Tools, MailChimp, WordPress, HTML, CSS, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator – software provided with position), Neon CRM Database, Social Media Interfaces: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
Event – 40%
- Events will include- Volunteer work days (January 29 and 30, March 5 and October 27, 2016), Cap10K exhibition and water stop (April 7-10, 2016), Annual Moonlight Margarita Run & Party (June 9, 2016), donor reception(s), State of the Trail Breakfast (Nov 2016), Community Partner events, project special events and grand openings
- Attend all TTF events unless they interfere with class
- Serve as a committee member for the Moonlight Margarita Run & Party
- Plan and execute select events
- Manage volunteer outreach and recruitment
- Ability to run errands and help with event preparation, reliable transportation or access to a vehicle is preferred
- Create and edit signage, programs, website and invitations
- Other tasks as assigned
Communications – 30%
- If able, attend communication committee meetings and provide feedback to internal team (third Thursday of the month, 8:00am-9:00am)
- Create and edit monthly newsletter
- Reach out and recruit volunteers for various events
- Other tasks as assigned
Administrative – 25%
- Attend monthly staff meetings, will work around your school schedule
- If able, attend monthly board meetings, (third Tuesday of the month, 6:00pm-7:30pm)
- Aid with daily office and internal requests
- Maintain the database
- Synthesize data from various sources and compile into readable and digestible formats
- Other tasks as assigned
Development – 5%
- Exercises being a great listener in order to identify components that will lead to meaningful partnerships
- Troubleshoot and respond to member requests with concierge level of customer service
- Attend donor, member and/or community partner meetings as requested
- Other tasks as assigned
