Internships with Austin EcoNetwork

Austin EcoNetwork Artist Collaboration/Internship

Join the Austin EcoNetwork team as our in-house artist! The Austin EcoNetwork is an environmental news site based in Austin, dedicated to educating the public about the local environment. We are always thinking up new, fun, and creative ways to do that, which is where you come in. We are looking for an artist to work with us on a fun new project aimed at illustrating the news.

This will not be a busywork kind of internship. AEN’s in-house artist will have the opportunity to jump right into the action, working with the editor to illustrate the local news. We’re essentially bringing back the art of the political cartoon.

Responsibilities will include:

• Working with the AEN intern to tell news stories in fun and creative ways
• Creating illustrations and drawing political cartoons for the Austin EcoNetwork website

Who should apply:

• Creative people who love the environment and want to work on something new and innovative

• Applicants do not necessarily have to be art majors, they just have to be talented artists with apassion for the local news

Austin EcoNetwork PR Internship

Join the Austin EcoNetwork team as a PR/Promotional Intern! The Austin EcoNetwork is an environmental news site based in Austin, Texas and we need your help expanding our reach!

This will not be a busywork kind of internship. AEN’s PR/Promotional Intern will have the opportunity to jump right into the action, putting together a plan for expanding AEN’s readership and then executing that plan. This will very much be your project, and will be a great resume booster. The hours are flexible and enthusiasm is a must.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Putting together a PR/promotional plan to expand the Austin EcoNetwork’s readership, especially amongst younger readers
  • Acting upon that plan, and actually putting in the work necessary to expand AEN’s readership
  • Going to environmental events in the city and helping to get the word out about the

    EcoNetwork in-person

Communications Intern for Texas Partnership for Out of School Time

The Texas Partnership for Out of School Time (www.txpost.org) was established in 2011 as a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the quality of afterschool and summer programs throughout the state of Texas.  As a young organization, TXPOST offers the opportunity to learn what it takes to grow a startup nonprofit, develop marketable professional skills, and gain hands-on experience doing meaningful work that contributes to our mission.

TXPOST is currently seeking a part-time intern to work 20-25 hours per week providing support in communications and marketing.  We offer a fun atmosphere where employees are encouraged to challenge themselves and continue developing new skills and talents. We are looking for a smart, organized, self-motivated candidate who would thrive in a dynamic work environment with the chance to grow with the organization and contribute to a better future for Texas youth.

Work Hours:  20-25 hours Monday – Friday.

Responsibilities:
The Communications Intern will report to the Executive Director and support TXPOST’s mission in the following ways:

  • Finalize content and design for fact sheets and presentations
  • Write issue briefs, op-eds, policy papers, and other print/online communications pieces that clearly explain afterschool and summer learning issues to stakeholders, the media, and the public
  • Provide support to the TXPOST Marketing and Communications Committee on regular conference calls

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of 60 hours of college coursework
  • Effective listening and exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Graphic design experience
  • Self-motivated with creative problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Dependable and flexible
  • A sense of humor, strong work ethic, and dedication to systems change to benefit children and youth
  • Proficiency in using computers, specifically MS Office and graphic design software
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or education in the afterschool, summer learning or youth development field, communications/media, public affairs, education, or nonprofit management
  • Pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or Graphic Design or other relevant field

Compensation:
This position offers a monthly stipend based on experience. TXPOST will also work with the successful candidate’s university to pursue course credit for the internship.

Communication & Event Internship with The Trail Foundation

A 501(c)3 dedicated to protecting and enhancing the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake. We work in cooperation with the Austin Parks and Recreation Department to close the gap between what the City provides and what the Trail deserves.

DESCRIPTION

This internship will be multifaceted, and the intern will have the opportunity to work in all departments of The Trail Foundation (TTF). We are seeking an innovative, creative, analytical and strategic thinker, who is passionate about supporting and celebrating the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail. The Trail Foundation is run by a small team, which allows this intern to gain hands-on experience and have direct one-on-one learning experiences with all department heads. The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic and thrive in a fast paced setting that is constantly evolving. This person should demonstrate a high level of integrity and willingness to keep information confidential. This role will report to the Development Director and the Project and Creative Director.

The ideal intern must be able to commit to a full year with the option for a second year renewal.

LOCATION

The office is located in the Hyde Park, Austin, TX, free parking available and close to UT bus line.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A sophomore or junior is preferred
  • Previous internship experience a plus
  • Familiarity with the Trail

The ideal candidate will:

  • Provide support to Development Director, Project and Creative Director, Office Manager and Executive Director
  • Offer thoughtful insight and sound business judgment to furthering success of seasoned nonprofit organization
  • Must exemplify attention to detail
  • Have the ability to work on multiple initiatives in a rapidly changing and fast-paced environment
  • Have the capability to succeed when working autonomously and/or with a team
  • Demonstrates creative thinking and problem solving skills
  • Shows confidence when presenting new ideas to internal team, potential partners or community members
  • Have experience driving projects to completion
  • Have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Be comfortable working in a small business environment
  • Have a sense of humor
  • Have a willingness to learn
  • Be able to adapt personality and behaviors to different business settings
  • Not be afraid to think outside of the box, dream big and get a little dirty
  • Have proficiency in or willingness to learn: Microsoft Office, Google Tools, MailChimp, WordPress, HTML, CSS, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator – software provided with position), Neon CRM Database, Social Media Interfaces: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

Event – 40%

  • Events will include- Volunteer work days (January 29 and 30, March 5 and October 27, 2016), Cap10K exhibition and water stop (April 7-10, 2016), Annual Moonlight Margarita Run & Party (June 9, 2016), donor reception(s), State of the Trail Breakfast (Nov 2016), Community Partner events, project special events and grand openings
  • Attend all TTF events unless they interfere with class
  • Serve as a committee member for the Moonlight Margarita Run & Party
  • Plan and execute select events
  • Manage volunteer outreach and recruitment
  • Ability to run errands and help with event preparation, reliable transportation or access to a vehicle is preferred
  • Create and edit signage, programs, website and invitations
  • Other tasks as assigned

Communications – 30%

  • If able, attend communication committee meetings and provide feedback to internal team (third Thursday of the month, 8:00am-9:00am)
  • Create and edit monthly newsletter
  • Reach out and recruit volunteers for various events
  • Other tasks as assigned

Administrative – 25%

  • Attend monthly staff meetings, will work around your school schedule
  • If able, attend monthly board meetings, (third Tuesday of the month, 6:00pm-7:30pm)
  • Aid with daily office and internal requests
  • Maintain the database
  • Synthesize data from various sources and compile into readable and digestible formats
  • Other tasks as assigned

Development – 5%

  • Exercises being a great listener in order to identify components that will lead to meaningful partnerships
  • Troubleshoot and respond to member requests with concierge level of customer service
  • Attend donor, member and/or community partner meetings as requested
  • Other tasks as assigned
