Marathon Kids Program Intern
Directly Reports to: National Programs Coordinator (and entire Program Team)
Start Date: January 2016, 20 hours/week (flexible for applicant’s schedule/availability)
OVERVIEW:
Marathon Kids is dedicated to improving the health of children by providing them with the tools, motivation and support to live happier, healthier lifestyles. So far, Marathon Kids has transformed the lives of over two million children, and as of this year, we have partnered with Nike to take this youth running program to the next level. Kids everywhere need more access to physical activity. We are building a community around the movement to get them running and help them go the distance.
Marathon Kids is seeking a driven, fast-learning and inventive intern who is passionate about changing the lives of children. This internship will provide hands-on experience with an innovative nonprofit where you will be mentored by professionals actively changing the NPO world.
DUTIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Parent and Coach outreach throughout the spring semester
- Preparing and assisting with presentations at local school and organization-based
meetings
- Maintaining the Programs Team’s social media presence, and helping to develop
social media strategy with our PR and Communications Manager
- Assisting with the creation, and revision of all programmatic materials
- Working closely with the National Programs Coordinator to manage continuous
projects amongst the Programs Team
- Editing, crafting, and revising web content for all program related aspects of the
Marathon Kids website
- Researching state and federal mandates regarding physical activity and physical
education
- Partnering with the Programs Team to maintain the upkeep of the program-wide
database
- Taking on other program-related tasks as they arise

- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities; strong research and writing skills
- Strong interest in public health, physical education/activity, and/or youth development and fitness
- Energy and willingness to work in a diverse and dynamic office setting
- Comfortable in a school setting (elementary or middle school)
- Enjoys being creative, and thinking outside the box
- Is a team player, and has the ability to take direction and realize other’s ideas
