South by Southwest offers a broad range of internships. Our focus is to provide a real-life learning experience within the organization, so that students are better prepared to seek employment after graduation.
To apply for an internship, submit your resume and cover letter to the SXSW Internship Department . Please include in your cover letter “Why you think an internship with SXSW would benefit you.” Also, designate up to (3) internship(s) you wish to apply for (from greatest interest to least). Include your choices in both your cover letter and the body of the e-mail. Don’t forget to include any additional information requested in the internship descriptions. All positions are unpaid and you must be a currently enrolled college student. Preference will be given to students receiving college credit for their internship. Most positions require a weekly time commitment and more than full-time availability during SXSWeek, and the days immediately preceding the start of the event.
SXSW Eco Marketing Intern
DESCRIPTION
Learn first hand how to create, develop and implement marketing, advertising and partnership strategies for SXSW Eco. This position is research and writing heavy, with a strong focus on outreach, partnership development and community engagement. Interns will be given projects to develop from start to finish, gaining practical experience in a variety of marketing disciplines. This position also helps to execute special events and art installations, so creativity is welcome!Responsibilities for this position include:
- Researching prospective partners and customers for SXSW Eco
- Write blogs and social media posts relating to SXSW Eco programming
- Research previous and new speakers, help tell the story of the outcomes from SXSW Eco
- Assist marketing manager, including contracts, database work and organization
- Help organize outreach and marketing efforts, including event promotions and advertising
- Write promotional copy including email updates, printed pieces, blogs, and Program Guide
- Help coordinate partner activations onsite including pre-event logistics and day of show execution
- Assist in development of new events and installations pre-event and onsite

SXSW Eco Place By Design Programming Intern
DESCRIPTION
SXSW Eco seeks a design program intern to assist with speaker and panel administration and the Place By Design competition. This position will begin with research, administrative and speaker/finalist management and will transition into a more production-oriented role towards the end of the season. This is a great opportunity to learn emerging trends in architecture, impact design and urbanism, as well as event planning and production. Applicants should have familiarity with the concept of creative placemaking and related initiatives as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.Responsibilities for this position include:
- Researching prospective partners and customers for SXSW Eco
- Write blogs and social media posts relating to SXSW Eco programming
- Research previous and new speakers, help tell the story of the outcomes from SXSW Eco

SXSW Eco Sales + Sponsorship Intern
DESCRIPTION
Learn first hand how to create, develop and implement custom marketing strategies for socially and environmentally conscious companies. This position is research heavy initially and transitions into a production role as the season progresses. Interns will be given projects to develop from start to finish, gaining practical experience in a variety of marketing disciplines.Responsibilities for this position include:
- Researching prospective clients for SXSW Eco sponsorship opportunities
- Write blogs and social media posts relating to available programs and confirmed client programs
- Assist sales and sponsorship account executive, including contracts, database work and client support
- Help organize outreach and marketing efforts
- Write promotional copy including email updates, printed pieces, blogs, and Program Guide
- Help coordinate client activations onsite including pre-event logistics and day of show execution
- Assist with Eco Exhibition and other production logistics onsite
- Assist in development of new activations, evening events and parties

SXSW Eco Startup Central Programming Intern
DESCRIPTION
Spend the year gaining experience and contacts with an internship in the programming department at SXSW Eco. The Startup Central Programming intern will have a hand in all aspects of the startup program, with the opportunity to creatively impact the event’s content. Internship is unpaid. Potential for future growth within the company.Responsibilities for this position include:
- Researching prospective startups, investors, judges and speakers
- Write blogs and social media posts relating to Startup Central
- Assist Program Manager, including contracts, database work and organization
- Help organize speaker communications, logistics, and promotion
- Write promotional copy including email updates, printed pieces, and Program Guide
- Help coordinate the competition onsite including pre-event logistics and day of show execution
- Assist in development of new events and programs for this audience
Requirements for this position include:
- Internship candidates should be proactive self-starters, with an enthusiasm for learning and a desire to get as involved as possible in the event
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are a must
- Demonstrated background and interest, through educational or work experience is a plus
- Proficiency in Excel is required
