AVANCE-Austin fully understands the need for consistent, quality education beginning in a child’s earliest years. In order for our Parent and Child Education program to be successful and meet its goals of providing comprehensive, educational classes for Austin’s most impoverished Latino population, we require engaging and dedicated Spanish speaking individuals for our summer internship under direct supervision of the Director of Programs. This is a perfect opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student seeking experience in an Austin nonprofit aimed at bettering the lives of hundreds of children. By working closely with our talented and dedicated team, you will gain strong professional skills, experience working with diverse communities, and develop a deeper understanding of the critical political and economic issues we are addressing.

The AVANCE/HEB READ 3 Program is a 6 week family workshop focused on early literacy and nutrition. The program is complimentary of the AVANCE mission centered on the parent as the child’s first teacher.
Each of the six 2 hour sessions includes parents with their 2 and 3 year olds. The sessions include bringing Dietitians and student teachers to teach parents basic nutrition while the children focus on the components of early literacy. During this time, parents and the children come together to read and do activities. In addition parents are provided an HEB gift card at the end and book with bookshelves for their homes.
The READ 3 program is so complimentary to AVANCE’s Parent Child Education Program and how we view parents as their child’s first teacher. It further reinforces the early literacy and nutrition so vital to our children for school readiness.
