ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
Marathon Kids is a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to improving the health of children by providing them with the tools, motivation and support to live happier, healthier lifestyles.
For years, Marathon Kids has demonstrated an iterative and unfailing commitment to its own healthy evolution, drawing directly on the growing field of implementation science to translate knowledge into action. Today’s running club program incorporates the best practices from a variety of past pilot initiatives and extensive evaluations, including a significant amount of deep, place-based work in community organizing and community diffusion. Marathon Kids aims to empower adults and children together to create and sustain cultures of health. To date, Marathon Kids remains the nation’s only evidence based program of its kind.
The Program Team of Marathon Kids is presently focused on evaluating and developing an innovative, effective and sustainable program to take our mission to new heights as we expand nationwide. The Program Team intern will learn and apply measurement and evaluation methods, social enterprise expertise, and program implementation practices to that cause. Supervision and mentorship for this position is provided by program implementation professionals who are actively informing and changing the landscape for multi-sector collaborations, nonprofit sustainability, and community health interventions.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Intern tasks and projects may include:
1) Research and Strategic Planning, such as: landscaping new markets and communities to expand Marathon Kids running clubs nationally and internationally, gathering data on sedentary lifestyles, physical activity and educational reforms for new program development
2) Data management, to be used for: reporting for funders and partners, program efficacy and marketing tactics
3) Social media content creation and monitoring; as well as, assisting Marathon Kids Communications and PR Manager to develop and implement social media policy
4) Other discrete projects as determined by present needs and the qualifications and interests of the candidate.
All interns and practicum students at Marathon Kids become integral members of their team, intimately involved in the conversations and decisions that affect their areas of work.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics:
• Detail oriented, with strong analytical and research skills
• Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Flexible, adaptable, and unafraid to fail
